Bina High School of Norfolk,
Virginia, Off to a Great Start
“The excitement that accompanied the
September opening of Bina High School
of Norfolk, Virginia, has continued to
{grow with the passing months. The school
{hat started out as an idea in the minds of
a few devoted parents has since become &
flourishing institution for both local and
‘out-of town students, with both high aca
demic standards and a strong extracurtic-
ular program.
‘As with any great idea, the right peo-
ple were needed to bring it to fruition.
Rebbetzin Chani Werther brought
decades of experience in chinuch habanos
to her position as menaheles, providing
the faculty with guidance during the
school’s formative "period, General
Studies Principal Mrs. Linda Peék, whose
sterling reputation as an educator pre-
ceded her, has also been essential to the
school’s success.
‘Bina High School is fortunate to have
an outstanding team of educators, includ.
ing Rabbi Chaim Silver of Bnai Israel
Congregation in Norfolk, who has guided
the school from the outset, and Rabbi
‘Dovid Bernstein of Torah Umesorah, who
hhas been an invaluable consultant every
step of the way.
Bina is renting space in a state-of-the:
art building, and in general has been the
beneficiary of remarkable hashgachah
prats in its development.
The school has also been fortunate
with its most vital resource — its talmidos.
Six fine students from Norfolk have been
joined by ninth- and tenth-grade students
from Baltimore, Chicago, Denver and New
‘York, They have been challenged by
Bina’s-curriculum, embraced by its facul-
ty, and inspired by its warmth. The com:
‘unity as a whole has seen to it that the
ut-oftoven girls feel that Norfolk is their
home away from home.
‘Throughout the year, the students
tive been involved in countless extracur-
ricular activities and events that round
Out their high-school experience.
Recently, they put on a performance of
“City of Refuge” that was well received
by an audience of more than 100 women.
Chessed projéets have regularly taken the
girls to the Beth Sholom Honie for the
‘aged, and they have also enjoyed various
‘Chagigos, a Mishmeres program, color wat,
@ day trip to Baltimore, and other out
ings.
‘Bina High School's future appears
bright indeed, In the short time since its
students took their seats for the first
time, Bina has already become synony-
‘mous with a love of learning, a well-
rounded program, and personal attention,
to the students. If you'd like to find out
