LEARNERS PERSPECTIVE:
COI Survey:

Social Presence Getting to know other course participants


Social interaction gives student a sense of belonging
Communication is open and comfortable for interaction between learners
Online discussions enables learners to provide feedback and further develops a sense of
community
Cognitive presence facilitates online learning

Implementing effective online teaching practices:

Online interaction is vibrant between student and instructor


Collaborative process of learning and interaction with peers based on course content
Students are required to respond to a main topic for a course grade
Students are allowed to introduce themselves in an introductory conference BIO
Student engagement through social interactions formal and informal strategies
Prompt and substantive feedback is essential to cultivating learning experiences
Feedback is used to encourage student to participate in class, and ask questions and clear
up expectations of the learner and teacher

TEACHERS PERSPECTIVE:
COI Survey:

Design & Organization clear communication in course topics, goals, and activities are
presented to the learner.
Facilitation the teacher guides the class participants, encourages and reinforces course
concepts.
Instructor is a facilitator and provides constructive feedback through direct instruction.

Implementing effective online teaching practices:

Requiring students to become active participants in their own learning


Grounding learning by using examples
Using collaborative problem solving
Giving appropriate feedback

Fosters active and interactive reflective e-learning

Using motivation to challenge and enhance students self-efficacy

What practices are supported by the most recent research you have encountered in your MDE
program?

Learning goals are made clear


Active learning and skill builders are tied to course objectives throughout the course
Online Collaborative Interaction among teacher and student is emphasized
An overabundant amount of information for content areas is presented along with the
syllabus which also outlines objectives and learning goals for the course
