Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
1. Understand that the colonisation of Australia had detrimental impacts on Indigenous populations.
2. Identify the different types of impacts, (Diseases, dispossession, movement, frontier conflict and resistance)
3. Use the historical concept of cause and effect to analyse the reasons why events have occurred.
Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:
1. Load weebly site to the front room projector, check to see
if all ICT components are working.
2. Go through Weebly site, making sure all links, apps and
videos run correctly

Provision for students at educational risk:

Extension Students: Encourage them to extend their
mind map as far out as possible, break down the topics
further.
Low achievers: Make sure any students who struggled
in the previous class are not grouped together, support
peer learning.
Absenteeism: Have those students who missed class
go through the lesson uploaded to Weebly, viewing the
finished work from padlet and spiderscribe.

LESSON DELIVERY (attach worksheets, examples, marking key, etc, as relevant)

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):
20min

Activity 1: Students are to pair up into a group of three, with one members
computer or laptop to be the designated workstation. From here, each group
is to create a mind map that shows the different impacts and effects of
colonisation on indigenous populations.

t/

Groups will share their ideas from the mind maps with the class, and a whole
class brainstorm will be created on the front screen monitor. This will be
posted online on kidblog for later reference and study.
10min

Activity 2: As individuals, students will make their way onto padlet for the
second activity. Here, a background will be created where there will be two
headings on either side of the page, intended and unintended. Students will
be asked to list one intended and one unintended impact or effect on
indigenous people. Complete with their name on their comment so the
teacher can see individuals work.

As a class, we will discuss the answers that were shared on Padlet and make
any corrections or additions that are necessary.
Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)
Teacher to generate a discussion on how short or long term some of the
impacts of colonisation were on ingenious people.
10min

Play YouTube clip swimming the river, to help students identify that impacts
from European settlement are still effecting ingenious people today
