Research question: (How does changing X affect Y? OR What will happen to Y if I change X?)
How does change of amount of MgSO4 affect the temperature?
Independent variable (X): (the one you change) the amount of MgSO4
Dependent variable (Y): (the one you measure) change of the temperature
Fixed variables: (the ones you keep the same to make the test fair)
Amount of water, size of beaker, how many times I stir.
Hypothesis:
It is predicted that it will make exothermic reaction
I think this because, salt can make exothermic reaction.
Procedure:
List of materials:
Diagram of apparatus:
(and amounts)
(2D, carefully labeled diagram drawn using a ruler and sharp pencil)
1 Scale
1 thermometer
3 beaker
Epsom salt
Water
1 graduated cylinder

Give instructions about how and when to control variables, take measurements, repeat tests and make calculations.
Instructions should be numbered and begin with an imperative verb like add, stir or measure.
1. Get ready all the materials I need
2. Pour the 50ml of water in a beaker
3. Add 2g of Epsom salt in the beaker that has water in.
4. Do the same thing two more times by changing the amount of Epsom salt increasing it by 2g
5. Repeat the whole thing again.
Results:

Quantitative data: (design a table to record the measurements you have taken and calculations you have made)

Observations: (what did you see, hear, smell or taste while you were carrying out the experiment? Note down
anything that might have affected or might explain your results.)
I saw the water becoming white while the epsom salt dissolves and turns back to normal color after it finished dissolving. I
didnt hear any sound during the reactions or smell anything.

DISCUSSION
Conclusion: What specific information from your results shows this?)
It was found that adding epsom salt it water creates endothermic reactions because, the temperature goes down.
Scientific explanation: (How can you explain your conclusion scientifically? You may have to research to find the
answer to this, either in text books or in the library. Make sure you include scientific language in your writing)
When I added the epsom salt with water the water colors changed to white and turned back to transparent color again,
while that process the temperature of the mixture decreased but there werent much change of the temperature. But
there were some slight change.
This disagreed with my prediction because the chemical reaction was actually endothermic reaction since the
temperature decreases.
Evaluation: (Validity issues - What inaccuracies might have occurred due to the equipment or procedure used during
the experiment? Related improvements - How could the equipment or procedure be changed to make the experiment
more accurate next time?)
Validity issues
The temperature was different from the first try and
second try

Related improvements
I should finish the experiment one day so that the value is
same.
