Dear Aviation Tech Advisory Committee and Parents,

Two more weeks have flown by and we are now well into our Aviation
History, Aerodynamics, Meteorology, Safety and Professional Development units! The students (with the help of Marlin Martin of the Pearson Field Education Center) are designing remote control airplanes
from scratch using principles from our aero course. We will be showing
off these projects, as well as our program in general, to a reporter from
the Columbian on Tuesday October 14th so be on the lookout for an
article in local paper the next few weeks!
The most exciting news that weve gotten in a long
time is that the Skills Center Foundation has procured a large grant for our program. We will have
the opportunity to purchase at least one, if not
several aircraft for our hangar to be used for static
training. I hope to acquire at least two Cessna aircraft (a 150 and 172 model) to use for pre-flight,
walk-around and basic checklist and maintenance
training! We are also considering an extra fully
enclosed flight simulator for advanced training!
We can all say thanks to the Clark County Skills Center Foundation (our primary advocates for fundraising, managing donations
and procuring grants and scholarships) by checking out and liking the Foundations Facebook page! We can also help out financially by registering with the Safeway E-Scrip program or
Fred Meyer Community Rewards program. All you have to do is
pass along your name and Safeway card number to Dennis
Kampe, dennis.kampe@evergreenps.org, the Foundation director) or go to fredmeyer.com/community rewards and select the
non-profit org: #88782 Clark County Skills Center Foundation Then for every point you get, the Foundation also receives a
small donation at no impact to your personal points or rewards!
Our first Advisory Committee meeting this school-year will be held on
Monday, November 3rd at 5:30 pm. We will discuss the details of our
aircraft purchase, our second year program and our prospects for developing a scholarship program for our students to earn a chance to solo
during the summer! We will also set the committee meeting schedule
for the remainder of the school year and I will introduce our new committee members. I dont expect everyone to be able to make each
meeting but I could really use some help with a few project management
functions of the program in the near future!
Thanks for your time, consideration and support! We have a few guests speakers
scheduled for later this fall. Richard Kennington from the FAA/ATC will be visiting
next week, and Laureano Mier from Pearson Field and Captain Dean Roberts from
Delta Airlines plan to drop by to inspire the students in November! Please let me
know if any of you would also like to join us for a class!

Thanks, Rob!
