Purpose of Composition (what you were trying to accomplish in the composition):

The purpose of this composition is to make others more aware of how horrific
human trafficking is, how common it actually is, and that it takes place across the
globe.
Audience (the people with whom you were trying to communicating):
The audience is Dr. Coxwell Teague and my classmates.
Rhetorical Appeals Used in Composition (how you used ethos, logos, and pathos):
I used ethos by citing my sources, sharing where I found my information and giving
credit for it. I used logos by giving a lot of facts and using a lot of detailed
information. Lastly, I used pathos by putting in the story about Gabriella at the
beginning of the paper to give a true story for the reader to connect with and keep in
mind throughout the paper.
Mode (writer or text based, visual, audio, or a combination of two or more of these):
The mode of my paper is text based since it is typed out.
Media (print, digital, face-to-face, or a combination of two or more of these):
The media of my paper is both print and digital. Print because it is written/ typed
out but also digital since it appears on my English portfolio website.

Genre Conventions

!
!

Elements of the Genre (the main features/common elements that are common to most
research essays composed in an academic setting):
Some of the main features or elements of research essays are research, sources,
parenthetical citation, and works cited.
Style (the particular ways you chose to communicate, including elements such as voice
the presence of the author; use of precise details; toneserious, humorous, casual, etc.):
I chose to communicate using a lot of facts and details, making it more of an
informative paper. The tone/voice is very serious and sympathetic towards the topic.

Design (the visual features of the composition such as use of headings, format, color, and
illustration):
The heading, format, and color is all standard for a research essay, and there is no
illustration in the paper itself. The website that it appears on however is full of
illustrations and headings divining the pages.

Sources (the people, conversations, documents, books, journal articles, movies, and other
works you referred to in your composition):
All of the sources I used came from websites or online journal entries, most of which
were academic sources including several from the United States government.
