Dashboard - Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a great platform to provide content, interactivity with content , and organization. As part of the Google Apps for Education
suite, Google Classroom provides teachers and students with lots of options to build a community, work individually or collaborate, provide
feedback, and assessment for, as and of learning.
Google has great compatibility outside the Google suite and this makes it easy to integrate new tools to any classroom setting (traditional, blended
or fully online). Also, students can continue using most of the applications for free and share them with their personal Google account.

It is easy to create a class and add students using your Google Apps account or by
providing students with a class code.
Teachers can post announcements and assignments, share files, links and videos
from their computer, Google Drive, YouTube, etc.
Students can access assignments and work on them and submit them through
Google Drive.
Automatically organizes your folders in Google Drive by class, assignment and
students.
Teachers can provide feedback and marks directly on the documents submitted
by the students.
Students ask questions and / or make comments on assignments and
announcements. The teacher can access the comments and respond directly from
the classroom site.
It is easy to include quizzes, self assessments, surveys, etc by adding a link to the
tool of your preference (Google Forms, Socrative, SurveyMonkey, etc).

Collaborate

Works seamlessly with

Google Classroom by
automatically
organizing the folder
associated with the class
in question.

Students can share and

keep the folders
containing their school
work to their personal
Gmail account when
leaving the school or
program.

Grade Book

Easy GradePro is highly customizable and

allows the teacher to print and email
reports to student.

A teacher can analyse student / class

performance by creating reports.

The reports not only include percentage

grades but also comments, attendance
information, etc.

Although Easy GradePro is not free or an

online tool, the number of features and
grading options make it worth it.

The grade book aspect of Non-LMS toolkit

should in my opinion be an offline file.

Building Community & Inspiring Discourse

Providing students with easy to use tools and opportunities to interact synchronously as a group or individually are
fundamental for building a sense of community. These tools are not only suitable for distance learning or blended
programs but also effective for traditional classroom setting.
I chose these synchronous tools because they are free and easy to access, have chat and resource sharing options.
The asynchronous tool is easily incorporated into Google Classroom, as it is private and easy to manage and access.

Asynchronous Tools

Synchronous Tools

All together

Blackboard Collaborate is a great tool to

bring the social aspect of learning into
online and blended learning environments.

One on One

Skype is a great tool to have one on one or small

group conferences. It is easy to access and can be
an option for drop-in meetings or office
hours. It is free and mobile and allows screen
sharing and file transfers.

O n yo u r t i m e

Google Groups is an asynchronous discussion

forum included in Google Apps for
Education. It is easy to set up and gives the
teacher / moderator a fair number of options.
The link can be easily added to a Google
Classroom or Google Site.

Class Calendar

Creating a Google Calendar

Adding a Google Calendar to

Google Classroom

Google Calendar is user friendly, mobile and easily shared.

Assignment due dates, events, synchronous meetings, etcetera can be quickly added from any device (computer, tablet, phone).
Students can easily add the events into their personal calendar and set personalized reminders.
The calendar can be added as a link in Google Classroom.

Quizzes, Surveys, Polls, Self & Peer Assessment

Quizzing with Google Forms & Flubaroo

QuizStar

Google Forms is part of Google Drive and offers a variety of options for
creating quizzes, surveys, self and peer assessment forms.
The forms can be easily embeded into a website or accessed by sharing
the link. Students can access the forms using a computer, a tablet or a
smart phone.

QuizStar is a great complement to Google Forms; it is free and

easy to use.

Adding Flubaroo to a Google Forms response sheet helps you to easily

mark quizzes by answering the quiz in order to create an answer key.

The downside is that students are required to have a login

exclusively to use at QuizStar.

The downside of Google Forms is the limitation to resubmit a form,

review your answers or set a time limit.

Content, Lessons and Presentations

Office Mix offers great options to develop and deliver video lessons with interactive features, quizzes, polls, screen
capture, and video from your webcam.
