GLOs
Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how geographic,
social, cultural, and linguistic factors affect quality of life in communities in India,
Tunisia, Ukraine, and Peru.

Knowledge and understanding: Students will examine the geographic characteristics
that shape communities in other parts of the world by exploring and reflecting upon
specific inquiry questions.
Students Will:
Learn about Ukraines environment and how it affects the way that they live.
Learn about the different land forms and resources of Ukraine.

Where, on a map are the communities in relation to Canada?
In what ways do the people in the communities depend on, adapt to, and change the
environment?
In what ways do the communities show concern for their natural environment?
How does the physical geography influence the human activities in the communities
(e.g., availability of water, climate)?

Assess student prior knowledge and ask who knows where Ukraine is on
the map?
Ask students what they can tell you about Ukraine.

First we are going to take a short quiz and then we are going to work in our
groups with our partners to find the missing information about Ukraine..
Show the pictures of the different land forms/regions of Ukraine..

Re-read the questions to make clear and loud read answers
If student is struggling have them take the test one on one or let them tell
you what they know to show their knowledge.
Students will start their jigsaws of Ukraine from yesterday. Have them
remind you what a good learning partner is and what a bad learning partner
is not copying answers; sharing information and teaching each other to
better understand asking questions and making connections hey in
Ukraine they get snow like we do!

Each pair of the group has been assigned a region remind them of that
region. When the pair has worked together and found their information to fill
in the blanks they can grab a book from the front and partner read or finish
previous maps. When other pair is done, share information and teach each
other again not copying answers.
Assessment:
Through discussion and observation students will be formatively assessed
and this will be recorded on a checklist.

understand that the environment people live in affects the way they live.
Tell a few things learned about Ukraine. - Make connections to Peru,
Tunisia and Canada. Why do they live this way? In what way does the
environment they live in affect this?
Differentiation:
Have one on one discussion with groups/pairs so they can display their
knowledge.
Word questions differently and break them down for those who have trouble
grasping ideas
