INGLS INSTRUMENTAL
Os detalhes do texto so

O USO DO DICIONRIO
exemplo: mouse = rato /mouse = dispositivo do computador.
gramatical e a definio propriamente dita.

The function of the input unit is to accept both the data and the programs needed for
processing and to present them to the processor unit. The processor unit store and process the
data, and de output units display the results obtained from processing.
The most common input units are the keyboard and the mouse. These devices
enable data to go into the computers memory.
The processor unit is divided into two main parts: the Central Processing Unit
(The CPU) and the main storage unit (the main memory). The Central Processing Unit is
considered the most important component of the computer system. In other words, The CPU is
the brain of the computer. It carries out program instructions and coordinates all the activities
of the other units. The main memory holds the instructions and the data which are currently
being processed by the CPU.
All computers have a type of auxiliary, or extra, storage device: floppy or hard disks.
These devices provide permanent storage of both data and programs. Disk drives are used to
handle one or more floppy disks.
Output units enable us to extract the finished product from the system. The computer
either shows the output on the monitor screen or prints the results onto paper by means of a
printer.
The peripherals are the physical units connected to the computer. They include both
input and output devices as well as storage devices. Peripherals such as a mouse, modems,
16

scanners, optical devices, printers, keyboards, loudspeakers, etc., are plugged into the ports on
the rear panel of the computer.
The peripheral set of a computer system is also known as the configuration.

of the same basic parts, and perform the same types of operations.

INGLS INSTRUMENTAL
Jeremy,
The computer industry has always been very dynamic with many changes in what technologies
are hot or not. If you specialize in only one area early in your college career, know that any
specific hard skills you learn, e.g. computer languages, will likely change or be different by the
time you graduate. So, if you go this route of being a computer specialist, there is some risk
involved in making an accurate guess at what will be hot when you graduate and whether there
is demand for the area you picked. Also, my sense is that the areas that you are looking at are
pretty different in terms of skill sets, interaction with others, work place, and personality
required.
If you are early in your studies, then I would suggest getting a good well-rounded generalized
curriculum including all of the areas you mentioned. Your only goal would be to get a sense of
what you like doing and gaining clarity on what brings you joy. What could you do for 12 hours
every day and lose track of time because you are so into it? Do you enjoy helping people,
tinkering with the computer and hardware, creating or designing software, or managing a
group of people getting work done? Another consideration is thinking about what you enjoy
learning about. Most folks in the technology area are lifelong learners of new technologies and
their potential applications.
Initially, I would also suggest that you talk to programmers who work in the areas you are
considering and get a sense of what basic skills are needed in general. There are likely
transferable skills such as project management, design, testing, and customer service that may
be helpful to know irrespective of your path. As you gain more clarity with what you like doing,
then I would specialize later in your studies.
Any other folks in development or computer programming, please chime in.

Computer virus
Computer virus, a portion of a program code that has been designed to furtively copy
itself into other such codes or computer files. It is usually created by a prankster or vandal
to effect a nonutilitarian result or to destroy data and program code.
A virus consists of a set of instructions that attaches itself to other computer programs,
usually in the computers operating system, and becomes part of them. In most cases, the
corrupted programs continue to perform their intended functions but surreptitiously
execute the viruss instructions as well. A virus is usually designed to execute when it is
loaded into a computers memory. Upon execution, the virus instructs its host program to
copy the viral code into, or infect, any number of other programs and files stored in the
computer. The infection can then transfer itself to files and code on other computers
through magnetic disks or other memory-storage devices, computer networks, or online
systems. The replicating viruses often multiply until they destroy data or render other
program codes meaningless. A virus may simply cause a harmless joke or cryptic message
to appear on a computer users video monitor each time he turns on his computer. A more
damaging virus can wreak havoc on an extremely large computer system within a matter of
minutes or hours, causing it to crash and thereby destroy valuable data.

Programming languages
A vocabulary and set of grammatical rules for instructing a computer to perform specific
tasks. The term programming language usually refers to high level languages, such as
BASIC , C , C ++ , COBOL , FORTRAN , Ada and Pascal. Each language has a unique set
of keywords ( words that it understands ) and a special syntax for organizing program
instructions.
High level programming languages , while simple compared to human languages, are
more complex than the languages the computer actually understands, called machine
languages. Each different type of CPU has its own unique machine language.
Lying between machine languages and high level languages are languages called
assembly languages. Assembly languages are similar to machine languages, but they
are much easier to program in because they allow a programmer to substitute names
for numbers. Machine languages consist of numbers only.
Lying above high level languages are languages called fourth generation languages (
usually abbreviated 4GL). 4GLs are far removed from machine languages and represent
the class of computer languages closest to human languages.
Regardless of what language you use , you eventually need to convert your program
into machine language so that the computer can understand it. There are two ways to
do this:
Compile the program
Interpret the program
The question of which language is best is one that consumes a lot of time and energy
among computer professionals. Every language has its strengths and weaknesses. For
example , FORTRAN is a particularly good language for processing numerical data , but
it does not lend itself very well to organizing large programs. Pascal is very good for
writing well structured and readable programs , but it is not as flexible as the C
programming language. C ++ embodies powerful object oriented features , but it is
complex and difficult to learn.
The choice of which language to use depends on the type of computer the program is to
run on , what sort of program it is , and the expertise of the programmer.
