Description: Walking, running, and stopping to the game of Traffic Lights.
Subject:
Travelling including walking and running
Duration:
30 minutes
Grade Level: Second Grade
Standards
Indiana Academic Standards:
NASPE Standards: 2.1.1 Demonstrate the ability to perform locomotor (traveling actions) and nonlocomotor (movement in place) skills proficiently.
2.1.2 Demonstrate the ability to perform stability (balance) skills alone and/or with a partner.

Objectives:

Details
Students will be able to demonstrate walking, running, and stopping with 100%
accuracy to the game pf Traffic Light.

Prior Knowledge:

The student will have to have prior knowledge of walking, running, and
stopping.

Materials:

There will be no materials needed only the gymnasium floor and pre-marked
lines from the basketball courts. If you desired, you can use colored flags in
red, green, and yellow.

Procedure:
Opening Set/Anticipatory Set
Who know the Traffic Light game? Do pre-class warm-ups and stretches. As students
do warm-ups start to teach them how the game is played. If someone knows how to
play, ask them questions like What do the colors stand for?
Instructional Sequence
Teach how to play game:
What do the colors mean? RED- Stop, GREEN- Run, and YELLOWwalk.
Red means stop but also means to stand in place without moving until
another color is said.
Green means to run, not sprint, in a straight line from where you stopped
or were walking to the end of the court and wait there until the next color
is said.
Yellow means to walk at a leisurely pace to the end of the court or until
the next color is said whichever is first.
This game is the random saying of three que words. Words should be said within 3040 seconds of each other.
Independent Practice
When the students go home, they can have their parents and/or older siblings help
them go over the game and play it.
Closure
Do cool down activity that the students already know. Ask them questions about the
game and ask how many are going to go home and play it with their families.

Adaptations:

Remediations- For students with disabilities, the game can be play with
GREEN being walking leisurely and YELLOW being slowly walking while RED
stays stop. If a students is hearing impaired, use flags that are green, red, and
yellow.
Enrichments- For more advanced students, the words should be said 5-15
seconds apart. Walking can be switched to running and running can be
switched to sprinting. Another way is to have students get in groups of four and
have them make up their own form of the game.

Assessment of Students:
To assess based on one form of the game, in which if a student misses a que or does the
wrong thing then theyre out.
