Wave 3: Reflections OMDE 601 Debra Farmer

1. Did you experience any "a-ha!" moments during this wave? Tell us more about them and
what specifically made them "a-ha!" moments. My aha moments during this wave was
centered on the skill builders and how I felt that I was going through a new wave of
learning and applying existing theories to my assignments for this wave. Also using a
constructivist approach to learning new skills, along with self-directedness, as well as a
collaborative construction of new knowledge. I was actually applying theory to my work.
2. Go back to your original definition and consider again how it has changed (and if it has).
What specific readings, interactions, and/or discussions influenced the change? My
original definition has not changed, but the specific reading that influences me is the
reading by Peters (2010) where he discusses a digital learning environment will challenge
students to a more intensified interactivity, not with just quantity but with quality.
3. Think of a real-world situation, perhaps your current work environment, where you could
apply something that you have learned in this module. Describe this situation in your
journal. My current work environment includes a K-12 atmosphere where there is
teacher-student face-to-face learning. Some activities require work on computers but not
much online learning at a distance. New methods for integrating and implementing
online DE needs to be developed for K-12. I think that with this implementation more
students would get the extra assistance that they need in literacy programs and beyond.
