Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used. The purpose of The SRS activity is to use continuous assessment. This allows the teacher to assess that the students fully understand the lesson and reasoning for the mathematical standard.

Grade Level: 1st grade Content Area: Mathemeatics Standards Addressed:MCC1.NBT.5 Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used. Student Response Technology Used: Quizlet Technology that Students will use to respond to questions/prompts: Computer Hand-held student response system Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS Activity and how you will introduce the SRS Activity: Students will have learned that 10 more than a number or 10 less than a number will increase or decrease the tens place value digit by one but does not change the ones place value digit. Learning this standard will allow students to quickly find the answer to 10 more or 10 less than a number without having to count. Students will have an activity using base ten blocks so they understand that the reasoning of this fast method is that the tens place value is changing by one but not the ones place value. The SRS activity will be introduced as a fun assessment. Describe the purpose of the SRS activity To Illuminate Common Misconceptions Formative Assessment of Content Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and mastery for ALL students!) Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge Test Preparation Additional explanation of purpose (optional): The purpose of this SRS activity is to use continuous assessment. This allows the teacher to assess that the students fully understand the lesson and reasoning for the mathematical standard. Type of session: Student-Paced Identification of students: Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session SRS Activity will be anonymous Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS Activity: The teacher will hand out clickers to the students and instruct them on how to enter the number and submit their answer. Then the flash cards will project on the ActivBoard from the Quizlet. Teacher will show a flash card and all students will submit their answer in number form using the clickers. When all students have submitted their answer the teacher will flip the flash card to show the correct answer. The teacher will then proceed to the other questions via Quizlet flash cards. Results will be recorded for teacher to
evaluate the assessment and determine if understanding is accomplished
or more lessons are needed for the content knowledge. Blooms Level of Critical Thinking Required (check all that apply). See http://epltt.coe.uga.edu/index.php?title=Bloom%27s_Taxonomy X Remembering X Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating Types of Questions/Prompts (Check all that Apply): Multiple-choice Multiple Select True/False Yes/No Short Openended response or fill-in-blank Longer open-ended response Provide samples of questions/prompts to be given to students: "10 more than 23?" Right/Wrong Answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? : Yes No Mixed (Some will have correct answers, others will not.) Immediate Corrective Feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some or all of the questions and display the correct response to the class after the SRS activity? Yes No Why or why not? Because the assessment is for Math, all questions will have one correct answer. Use of Data: The data collected will be for teacher only to assess students' understanding of the mathematical concept. Describe what will occur after the SRS activity: After the SRS activity the teacher will determine if the students understand the reasoning of the content. If the majority of students have good understanding then teacher will move on to the next lesson. If most students do not have a good understanding then the teacher will repeat the lesson with alternate activities post teacher reflection. Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. Trying this SRS activity will teach the teacher about the students' understanding on the topic in the form of continuous assessment. It will also reinforce the concept as an extension activity for the students. Other comments about your SRS Activity (optional): I have chosen the Cards (flashcard) mode for the example but clicking "choose study mode" will allow same data to be in assessed in multiple modes. Test it out. This Quizlet can also be uploaded to the classroom blog in the "Flipped Classroom" page for students to return to in the future to refresh understanding of topic.
