Child Abuse

Abstract
There are many types of abuse that happens all over the world and we
are not aware how many children suffer from it and how many generations
are affected. The internet as many other sources make it easy for others to
be informed. Those who are parents, when do you know that you went
overboard? Maybe said things you wish to take back? Child abuse is a crime
and will be punished for it with the law. This issue is being addressed through
two genres that support the exertions being made in order for society to
make a change. Dave Pelzer, author of A Child Called It, explains his story,
everything he has gone through, and how it affects him throughout his life.
The short clip, ReMoved shows the emotions and feelings of a little girl,
wanting things to be different and if they were to be different how things
would be so much better. The genres are intended to raise awareness and for
their audience to see the main issue. This will be discussed throughout the
remainder of this paper.

Child Abuse

The intended audience for the child neglect genre are people with
children as their dependents, who can read, and are seeking for child neglect
awareness. Young adults and middle aged people may also find this type of
issue interesting and look more into it. Knowing the sort of individuals that
form the audience for the first genre, the audience will find out that the book
is intended to raise awareness. The emotional abuse video key audience, are
the people with access to the internet who want to know about child abuse,
psychological abuse, violence, and the way it affects younger generations.

Child Abuse

Society is conscious about all the types of abuse that take place every day,
in every place in the world. That is why theres so many articles, videos,
news, and as well as organization groups so something can be done and
charge those who commit this type of wrongdoing. In Dave Pelzers book, the
audience reads the feelings or the things that go through a childs mind
when they are being mistreated, feeling unwanted because nobody does
anything about stopping this type of misconduct. Feeling in a way that the
child is unwanted and deserves the punishment he is receiving. Compared to
the first genre, the second genre is a video, the viewers are able to
comprehend by watching what may go on in a childs everyday life.
Understanding from a childs point of view that everything thats going on
doesnt just cause physical damage, but the way that it affects them
psychologically.
Both genres vary in the time that is necessary to close the material,
from the time that the audience has; also an aspect on how much time will
be used to cover each material. Since the first part is presented through a
book, readers may spend a few hours or a couple of days; it just varies on
the reader since the book is not too long. Due to the way the material is
presented the book needs to be very catchy to the reader, so the reader
doesnt lose interest and keeps up with the material. The second genre is
presented with a visual of a video which is about ten minutes long. Everyone
searches the web now days, and the video being so popular in short time
trough social media, made viewers look more into the case.

Child Abuse

Each genres purpose is to tell their audiences of other types of abuse

and how one abuse can lead to another; such as, psychological abuse may
also lead to emotional abuse. Each segment presents the information
differently, one presenting it with a visual allowing the viewers to see and
acknowledge the different ways that its affecting children. The videos
formal language is directing to all types of viewers, since it is on the internet
and it is available to anyone who has access to the internet. However the
book has more detailed evidence and the reader is able to picture it in their
mind, as well as inform about the purpose of different mistreat the infant has
to go through. The book also entertains the reader because it is based on a
true story. The language is set formal trough out the book, but also has some
parts where it is set to informal, because the author is talking about himself
and using some words to get into a better point. The language for the most
part is very understandable, it does not use very elevated language because
the book is meant for entertainment or to persuade others, it is aiming
towards young adults and middle aged people. The vocabulary used in the
video and is specialized, it focuses on detailed descriptions of emotions and
feelings. The vocabulary is associated with the implication against neglect,
emotional, physical, and emotional abuse. Any type of offense. Which
requires society to come together, many people that have gone through this
type of harm many survivors feel isolated because of a lack of support, and
because of the shame that surrounds sexuality and victimization in our
culture (Obos Violence & Abuse Contributors, 2005). Other specialized

Child Abuse

vocabulary that was found in these genres consisted of words like violence,
parenting, unwanted, and neglect among others. The book can be
interpreted as siding more towards the victim that was mentioned in the
story. The text is explanatory, descriptive, persuasive, and with a
perseverance. The version of the book is not too clean, it is very detailed so
discretion is advised. There being no visuals in the page and being white and
white letters with no pictures serve to reinforce neutrality in the book.
Different chapters in the book give you a good idea of what the chapter may
talk about. The author establishes its credibility by letting the readers know
about the way he had to live his life and how he did everything possible to
survive. Society is aware of abuse, but sometimes do not realize the point
when they went over hand and took their anger out on a defend less child.
Both genres do a good job in addressing the rhetorical entreaties,
though they each have different and related ways in agreement to the genre.
In the first genre, ethos are lectured by how the author talks about the forms
of abuse throughout the book. In the second genre, the visuals are credible
because it shows the ways children are affected by violence and how
organizations establish safety to them. The book does address pathos in
many ways; describing feelings, emotions, and proving examples of many
types of abuse. Then later the author goes on talking about his life and the
way he has to deal with everything and no one is capable of rescuing him.
The content being read, not heard can be interpret in many ways, and
bringing everything to the readers imagination. On the other hand, the video

Child Abuse

shows a visual so the content is taken in a different way, which causes the
audience to feel sympathy.
The way in which the genres are presented is different causing the readers
and the viewers interpret it in many ways. In the first genre, the reader
began the chapter with his feelings which immediately gets the readers
attention wanting to know more, what is going to happen next. The book is
has easy vocabulary throughout the chapter, making the reader want to
finish the book. The video has a good visual and is self-explanatory. The
presentation of the material because the information to both genres need to
show their purpose in a short time to keep the readers and the viewers
interested in the topic. The book and the video allow their audience to
engage and be informed of different ways of abuse. Overall, both genres
have an easy interpretation and keeps their audience wanting to know more.
Though each genre demonstrates different sides of the issue, the book is
meant to raise awareness against all types of abuse. Child abuse is a serious
issue, and these genres are an example of infinite amount of genres there
are out there. Hopefully the audience that reviews these genres, learn or will
help to make a change for future generations.
