In"general,"I"am"not"a"fan"of"elementary"school"homework."I"especially"do"not"
like"the"worksheet"per"night"due"the"next"day."Here's"why:"this"creates"a"lot"of"
stress"with"some"kiddos."For"examples,"on"Wednesdays,"many"kids"go"straight"
from"school"to"church"for"an"hour."If"they"have"a"sports"practice"after"that,"they"
are"getting"home"at"8:00"at"night."Homework"starts"after"dinner"and"shower"at"
9:00."Not"a"good"situation"("hard"to"focus"when"exhausted"but"kids"feel"pressure"
because"worksheet"must"be"turned"in"the"next"day."If"homework"is"necessary,"
I'd"much"rather"see""home"on"Monday"due"Thursday"type"set"up""to"give"busy"
kids"exibility."With"that"said,"the"math"worksheets"every"night"were"a"Godsend."
It"helped"my"child"so"much"to"have"one(on(one"instruction"with"a"parent."Again,"
however,"it"would"be"nice"to"have"some"exibility"by"not"having"them"due"the"
next"day."

If"the"number"of"assignments"was"enough"to"learn"the"lessons,"then"I"think"they"
are"just"right."I"don't"think"my"child"had"a"particularly"large"amount"of"
homework."

my'student'and'from'conferences'I'feel'that'you'are'very'involved'with'
your'students'actively'learning.'You'bring'in'the'current'topics'to'learn'
from,'and'encourage'the'kids'to'learn'in'more'than'one'way.'I'feel'you'are'
very'available'for'concerns'and'questions'and'that'you'know'your'students'

I'did'not'like'"the'book."''I'think'it'reinforces'negative'behaviors.''Personally,'I'd'much'rather'see'a'
positive'reward'system'or'no'system'at'all.''Also,'I'felt'"the'book"'was'confusing'to'my'child.''It'
had'absolutely'no'eect'on'him.''He'always'said'that'it's'no'big'deal'to'sign'the'book'and'that'no'
one'cares,'which'is'the'exact'opposite'eect'of'what'you'want.''Granted,'that'is'my'child's'opinion,'
but'I'heard'this'from'several'of'the'boys'too.''My'child'once'told'me'that'you'have'to'sign'the'book'
if'you'don't'say'please'and'thank'you.''While'I'love'that'manners'are'being'reinforced'in'the'
classroom,'it'confuses'the'kids'when'you'have'to'sign'the'book'for'something'trivial'versus'
something'a'lot'more'serious.'

This'is'a'note'for'5th'grade'in'general:''stop'the'giant'projects!!!!!''I'have'had'two'children'go'
through'5th'grade'now.''Honestly,'they'learn'nothing'from'these'projects.''While'meant'to'be'
educational,'they'are'really'giant'art'projects'that'cost'money'for'supplies'and'end'up'being'
constructed'with'hot'glue'guns'by'parents.''I'have'a'7th'grader'and'these'projects'did'not'help'him'
succeed'in'middle'school.''In'fact,'the'middle'school'does'not'do'any'type'of'project'remotely'close'
to'the'ones'completed'in'5th'grade.''It'would'be'way'more'benecial'for'5th'graders'to'focus'on'
the'actual'writing'of'book'reports.''One'of'my'greatest'concerns'is'that'my'child'is'entering'middle'
school'still'not'knowing'how'to'write'a'proper'paper'i.e.'how'to'argue'a'position,'how'to'defend'
an'opinion,'and'the'lack'of'basic'writing'skills'such'as'developing'a'topic'sentence,'when'to'start'a'
new'paragraph,'and'using'transitions'between'paragraphs.'
