Be able to create short and long term goals associated with careers/finding
information about careers.

4. Participants with whom the activity was conducted

The participants the activity was completed with include Ms. Deals 9 th grade
class, which was made up of about 20 students who seemed to be mainly
women. Most students in the class were white, but many were other
races/ethnicities as well. Considering the range of ability levels in the 9 th
grade class, it was noted that some students were having trouble
understanding the Career Clusters Interest Inventory worksheet, as well as
also having a tough time understanding the directions of the follow-up
activity. When it comes to the socioeconomic status of each of the students, it
is unknown exactly what each students status is, but considering the
socioeconomic status of the town the school is located within, then Ms. Deals
class is most likely made up of middle to lower class individuals.

6. Specific procedures used in the activity
1. Personal introduction as well as topic introduction (career development)
2. For the first part of the time while Im here with you all, I will hand out a
career interest inventory that will give you an idea of the careers you might
find most interesting to you at this time in your life.
3. After completing the inventory, give Career Exploration handout
4. So, from what you just read on the handout. Could you list for me, out loud,
where I could go to find information on careers? (Ex: library, books, internet,
magazines, career fair, etc.)
5. Id now like for you all to create your own personalized list of where you
could go, besides the four resources on the handout, to find out information
about the career (or careers) that you are most interested in pursuing.
6. Lastly, have the students create a short term and a long term goal that
relates to finding information on the careers students are interested in or
planning for their future career
