This lesson will serve as a continuation of other science lessons. It can also lead into a lesson weather and
climate, the environment, and recycling. This lesson will serve as a reference in the future, especially the image
they will create on ToonDoo
They will need to be panned ahead of time for students who already know about the concepts in this lesson and
also for those who do not master the lesson on the first try.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

Introduction:
The students will become motivated and focused on the subject of the food chain, animals, and
plant.
Engage the classroom in a discussion about the environment and ask the students what their
favorite plant or animal is.
Procedures:

Activity A (10 minutes) Plant and Animal Nutrients

Teacher Procedures:
1. After the introduction, have the students will be given a pencil and an activity worksheet to
complete with the following assignments.
2. Upload the link to The Producers, Consumers, Decomposers Game.
3. Instruct the students to follow the link on their own computers.
4. Click on the individual links to further instruct the students on the game topic.
5. Ask the students to complete the portion of the worksheet that corresponds with the activity.
6. Instruct the students to play the game (Remind the students to watch the animation after each

7. Monitor and assist as needed.
Student Procedures:
1. Double Click on Google Chrome/Internet Explorer to the classroom website
2. After the teachers instructions, double click on the first link labeled The Producers,
Consumers, Decomposers Game.
3. Listen to the teacher as she goes over the vocabulary words in the game.
4. Complete the portion of the worksheet that goes with these pages.
Activity B (10 minutes) Food Chain
Teacher Procedures:
1. Upload the link to the next game, The Food Chain Game
2. Instruct the students to follow the link on their own computers.
3. Click on the individual links to further instruct the students on the game topic.
4. Instruct the students to play the game and ask the students to complete the portion of the
worksheet that corresponds with the activity (Remind the students to watch the animation after

5. Monitor and assist as needed.
6. After you are done and have time go back and play the game again.

Student Procedures:
1. Go back to the classroom website.
2. Double click on the second link labeled The Food Chain Game.
3. Listen to the teacher as she reviews the material at the beginning of the game.
4. Complete the portion of the worksheet that goes with this page and game.
5. After you are done and have time go back and play the game again. Make sure you familiarize
yourself with this concept.
Activity C (25 minutes) Food Chain Comic
Teacher Procedures:
1. Display the example for on the projector for the final activity of the day.
2. Upload the link to the final activity at ToonDoo.com. The students will be creating their own
food chain cycle using this website.
3. Display the website on the projector to the students can follow along.

8. Save and print the activity at the end of the lesson.

Closure:
Students will fill out an exit card naming one of the following: herbivore, omnivore, carnivore, producer,
consumer, and decomposer. There will also be a discussion between the teacher and student about what they
learned in class today.
