Module 1: Writing Assignment

Introduction
There are various strategies that teachers use to deliver an effective learning experience. I
will be comparing the responsibilities of TExES competencies with chapters one, two and three
of the Learning and Teaching textbook. I will discuss Learning to Teach chapter on, followed by
chapter two Student Diversity and ending with chapter three Creating Productive Learning
Environments.
Learning to Teach
Behaviorism gives teachers the control of the environment without allowing full
expression from the students. This style is primarily applied through observation, stimulating a
response and measured. In the Cognitive view of learning, students use their past experiences to
build on their current knowledge. Students make connections between past experiences and their
current learning. Cognitive teaching motivates students to respond to their developmental
characteristics and needs. Constructivism view is constructed within social context interactions,
and knowledge of community. It combines inclusion, allowing new perspectives. This style of
teaching is facilitated by motivated collaboration with the guidance of the teacher.

Chapter 1 speaks about three different learning perspectives; Behaviorism, Cognitive and
Constructivism. These perspectives of teaching are aligned with the first competency, Human
Growth and Development. The competency of the chapter illustrates that teachers need to
understand the process of how childrens knowledge is developed through planning, exploration
and assessment. Multi-sensory activities, discovery and experiences of subject matter are crucial
to students learning in the classroom. Through teachers lessons must be planned for all types of
learners. Research has found that all types of teaching instruction must have the foundation of
experienced teachers with effective subject knowledge.
Student Diversity
Chapter 2 focuses on student diversity related to TExES competency 2. Diversity
encompasses a variety of groups, race, culture, gender, risk, gifted, students with disabilities, and
ESL students. Diversity should be celebrated. The teacher should encourage unique ways to
facilitate diversity amongst all students. The teacher should incorporate multicultural lessons
allowing students to express themselves and their cultures, such as food, music and the
classroom environment. The teacher should model positive diversity awareness and provide.
Appreciation and respect for these elements will build students knowledge.
Creating Productive Learning Environments
Chapter 3 focuses on the classroom environment, aligned with TExES competencies 5and
6. The teacher manages student behavior through a positive and safe classroom environment.
Along with the importance of classroom management, the environment should be positive,
allowing children to assist in daily activities and feel empowered on making good choices .
Teachers should let students contribute in classroom discussion. Such as the classroom rules and

basic procedures, allowing students to choose their own book to read during independent reading
time. The learning environment should also maintain high standards in safety, presentation, and
praise
Conclusion
There is no perfect teacher; knowledge is something you continue building on. An
effective teacher will encompass all characteristics of human development, student diversity, and
classroom environment. They are in alignment with the Responsibilities of TExES competencies.
Being a teacher is not a simple task, but its rewards are infinite. Watching children grow to their
full potential is REMARKABLE!
