Kick, Roll,
and Catch

Description
Go over objectives for the day.
Locomotor- Run, Gallop, Hop, Skip, Horizontal Jump, Slide

Kick:
Non-kicking foot next to the ball
Contact ball below the middle of the ball
Contact ball with shoelaces (i.e., instep of foot)
Follow through
Kick hard

Roll:
Swing down and back
Step in opposition
Bend your knees
Release ball close to the floor

Catch:
Keep eye on ball
Reach arms towards ball
Give with ball as ball hits hands (bring ball into body)
Pinkies together if ball is below waist
Thumbs together if ball is above waist

Set up 3 different stations that correlate to each movement (i.e. hula hoops set up
differently and they have to figure out which one goes to which). Explain that they will
choose the station and will be using three movements. If the student is not sure what
movement it corresponds with, then the teacher will use guided discovery methods to
help them make the correct choice. The students will choose the movements and the
order in which we will learn.

Kickball

Variation 1: Students stand in circle on poly spots with one student standing on a poly
spot in the middle. The student in the middle will point to the classmate that they will
roll the ball towards. The chosen student will kick the rolling ball and then the other
students will catch the ball. After kicking the ball, the student will run around the circle
to their spot again. Optional: The person who catches the ball will try to get to the
kickers poly spot before they complete 1 run around the circle. The student catching the
ball must stay on the perimeter and not cut through the circle. If they are tagged or get
called out, they must switch poly spots

The instructor will let each student come up one at a time to pick a pose and lead the
class through the different yoga poses using a magnet and pictures on the tri-fold.
Students will hold for 15 seconds.
The teacher will ask review the lesson through questions about what they learned.
