LOOK AT THOSE CURVES

Alejandro Ramos

PROPOSAL
The blueprint was created by the
Architect and designer, Alejandro
Ramos for a new subdivision for
(RRE) Ramos Real Estate.
The blueprint will show several circle
drives, a multi curved swimming
pool.
This blueprint will show how to
graph, stretch, shrink, and translate
circles along with ellipses.

CIRCLES
Standard Form of an Equation of a Circle
Formula: (x-h)2 + (y-k)2 = 1
Example: Graph this equation, (x+7)2 + (y-3)2 = 1
Once graphed, you will notice that the center of the circle will be at the
points (-7, 3)
+ When the value of (h) the point is translated to
h
is positive, then:
the left

- When the value of (h) is the point is translated to the

h
negative, then:
right

+ When the value of (k) is the point is translated to the

k
positive, then:
bottom

- When the value of (k) is the point is translated to the

k
negative, then:
top

PRACTICE
Write an equation for the translation of x2
+ y2 =9, four units left and three units up_

(x-h)2+(y-k)2=r2 use standard form

(x-(-4))2+(y-3)2=9 substitute -4 for h, 3 for k, and 9
for r2

(x+4)2+(y-3)2=9

simplify

ELLIPSES
Equations of a Ellipsis
Formula: ( x2/a2) + (y2/b2)= 1 or ( x2/b2) + (y2/a2)= 1
( x2/a2) + (y2/b2)=
1

( x2/b2) + (y2/a2)=
1
