ABSTRACT

Marxs humanist dialectic

Boo-ki, Kim(Kyungghi University)

This paper approaches Marxs dialectic from a humanist point of view to situate
his historical materialism in human nature. Focusing on Marxs materialist critique
of Hegels method, existing studies fail to identify the role of humanism as a
prerequisite to the dialectical mediation of materialist history and consequently miss
such a human functional link, thereby understanding Marxs new embark in German
Ideology as a scientific break with his early works on natural attributes of human
activities and misunderstanding productive power simply as an aspect of economic
growth.

Key words: dialectic, historical materialism, humanism, Marx, Socrates.
