The Legacy of the First Crusade

At least a dozen other crusades happened because of the first one

The entire relationship between Europe and the Eastern Islands was damaged horribly (This is the
most important slide)

The first Crusade led to long-term Christian-Muslim hostility and we still feel some of that today

The later Crusades also led to Christian-Jewish hostility

Even though we view the First Crusade as a bloody and uncalled for battle the First Crusade restored the
peasants faith in God by helping them believe God was on their side

The Legacy of the First Crusade

(Continued)

Papal Authority was greatly increased and the Church gained a lot more power

Three military orders (Hospitallers, Templars, and Teutonic Knights) came into power

European Conquerors established four independent Latin Kingdoms
