Harlem Renaissance Project

You will complete a project to demonstrate your understanding of the Harlem
Renaissance. The project has 2 parts.

Part 1: Research
You will choose a theme that is reflected in the art, literature, and music of the
Harlem Renaissance.
Themes:

Black Nationalism
Overcoming Adversity
Freedom
Black Identity

You will then research that theme by finding 2 primary sources from the Harlem
Renaissance that reflect or show that theme. A primary source could be a piece of
art, a song, a poem, a short story, a photo from the time period, etc. Try to find two
different types. Once you have chosen your sources, have them approved by a
teacher. Then, you will answer research questions for each one.

Part 2: Product
After completing the research portion, you will make a creative final product that
reflects your theme. These will be shared with the class in the form of a gallery
walk. There will be no formal presentation, just an informal sharing of everyones
product. Possible products that you can make include:

Drawing or painting
Poem (10-15 stanzas)
Song (10-15 lines)
Dance
Short Story
Poster

PowerPoint Presentation
Other (Your own idea with teacher approval)

Your project will be graded based on the rubric on the back of this
