Final Letter
World Cultures
Ms. Tavani

Dear Ban Ki- Moon,

Hi Mr. Ban Ki- Moon my name is Kyle Chandler and I am an eleventh grader at
Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. I think that you are doing an excellent job as
being the United Nations Secretary General. I also would like to congratulate you as
being the eighth one of this position. I know that you have a very difficult job
because you have to get 193 nations to get along as much as possible. The reason
I am writing this letter to you is because I want to inform you on an issue that you
are dealing with at the moment and my solution to it. Also, I want to talk about how
important it is for living in a globalized world.

A huge problem right now I think is helping to support nations that are in
transition. These nations are known as third world nations. Third world nations
are all the other countries, today often used to roughly describe the developing
countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America. These countries are nations that are
just beginning or are nations that have had trouble with getting to where they
should get to. People in the United States do not realize the suffering that the
people in these developing nations go through. Some of the people struggle just
getting clean drinking water and it is horrible. I think that it would be in the best
interest of you and for the rest of the World for you to help them.

There are many solutions to this problem and I know that you are capable of
doing these. First, I think that it is imperative that you support transition
compacts with agreed strategic objectives and mutual accountability in fragile and
conflict environments. Also, it is really important that you help. Develop best
practices and scale up UN capacity and support in key areas of comparative
advantage, including peace building, human rights, the rule of law, electoral
assistance, national reconciliation, dispute resolution, anti-corruption measures,
constitution-making and power-sharing arrangements and democratic practices.
Another thing that is important to do is, deepen strategic and operational
collaboration with international and regional organizations, including international
financial institutions and regional development banks, and other stakeholders. This
will really help the nations get their feet underneath of them as they are developing.
Last but not least, it is absolutely imperative that you advocate for and establish an
age of accountability by combating impunity for serious international crimes
through strengthening the international criminal justice system, supported and

enhanced by capacity-building measures to strengthen national judiciaries. I think

that if you are able to do this these nations can get up to date with other nations
such as the United States and be a successful country.

Also, as I said I would like to talk to you about the importance of having a
globalized world. Nothing can run smoother than a globalized world. The positive
points of having a globalized world outweigh all of the negatives. One benefit is
that economies that are developing globally have more economic growth than
economies that are very established. Another benefit is globalization can help
create capitalistic and democratic governments. This is really important because
every nation should try and strive to be democratic because how important it is for
people to have human rights. Lastly, I think that it is very important that the world
becomes more globalized because this will allow more countries to produce goods
which will lower prices for people all over the world and then this will just have a
ripple effect throughout everything else. All of this is very important in having the
best world possible. Global independence is important for nations to succeed both
economically and for the people to live the best possible life.

Sincerely,
Kyle
Chandler
