Overview & Objectives


This anticipation of the 4th grade musical and the elementary
ensembles the students take part of in 5th grade (band or choir). It is
important for growing musicians to learn the importance of teamwork
and supporting each other.
Students will:
Understand the importance of teamwork to a musical ensemble
Learn how to implement teamwork into their classroom
Create a digital story about a musical group and teamwork

Preparation
Set out hula hoop
Designate student groups for final activity
Have examples of student work to show students
Make sure all classroom technology is set up and running
Load Digital Story Video example and YouTube videos
Reserve computers for digital story activity
Activities
Q1 (20 Minutes Class 1)
Teacher will explain chosen
hula-hoop game and play
game with class. (For large
classes pass the hula-hoop
works best.)
Students will play game
twice. Each round will be
timed.
During the first round,
teacher will not be a team
player. During the second
round, teacher will be
encouraging and motivate
class to finish.
Q2 (15 Minutes Class 1)
Students will participate in a
discussion on what
happened during the game
and if they noticed a
difference in the way they
felt between rounds 1 and 2
Teacher will facilitate
discussion writing down key
words mentioned by
students into Wordcloud
creator. After discussion
closes, teacher will share
the completed Wordcloud
with class for final input

examples of music

Students can teach the hula hoop games to the younger
students when they present their digital stories.
Students can write and record new lyrics to a well-known song to
describe the importance of teamwork.
Students can write letters of encouragement/secret encourager
letters to each other or to a student in the other class, sharing
what they appreciate about their classmate. Teacher will
distribute letters to keep the secret safe.
Students can also make word clouds of encouragement (similar
to the encouraging letters) with positive words and uplifting
phrases to encourage their classmates.
