YOUR CLASSROOM

ARTIST RESEARCH for High School Art classes

This is a two week long research assignment where, as a class,
students will go into the library or computer lab for research to
create a flyer over one artist.
I'm choosing this assignment because when attending a college Art
class I realized how little I knew about art history and artist around
the world. I would of highly benefited of a lesson plan like this
during my High School years.
Students will have to present the flyers to the class. This lesson is
dedicated to open up the mind of the students into the never
ending possibilities of artists and art around the world. The flyers
will be posted on a wall for references when needed through out
the year .

 WHAT THE TEACHER KNOWS TEACH-PACK FOR THIS SITUATION

Technology: I know how to use the required technologies for this lesson plan and Im prepared for
problem-solving with students. The flyers will expand their design skills in a professional way as well as
help them have references throughout the class when different artists are being taught.
Pedagogy: I would have a rubric prepared with what is expected to be graded. I know how long the
assignment can take and I am prepared for the extra days not to interfere with other lessons. If this lesson
takes less time than expected next lesson will be prepared.
Content: Before the lesson will be assigned I would have my own examples of flyers for students to
reference from. Id be knowledgeable in a variety of Artist.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE LEARNED

Technology: I need to expand my knowledge on specific trustworthy sites that could help this
assignment be more successful. I would also have to do my own research on the artist I am less
familiar with to be able to provide information when asked
Pedagogy: I need to see if everyone understands what were doing once the lesson has been
assigned. I will need to be able to walk around the class and realize if more explanation is needed
for the lesson.
Content: If this is not already known, I would need to talk to the school to see what art is
appropriate for the specific level being taught. I would also learn how the students respond to this
lesson and what needs to be adjusted for future students.

ACTIVITIES IN THIS LESSON

This lessons objectives are for students to research 5 artists where two need to be
living, two be deceased and one be a local artist.
1. Briefly Research 5 artists
2. Present to class options
3. Class will vote on which Artist their peer should emphasize on (promoting interest)
4. Be able to manage going to the computer lab or library for research as a class
5. Research on selected artist
6. Design a flyer on publisher with specific requirements
7. Print out final design for presentation and grading
8. Present design through projector in class

INTEGRATION STRATEGIES USED

Im integrating art class into a technology based class for this lesson. It would benefit the students
on realizing how technology can also be used in a resourceful way for art class as well as
incorporating design to any research. I like the two week assignment period because they will have
to involve time management skills on getting the flyer done while still working on existing pieces of
art. The two week period will give me time to be able to take them to a computer lap or library when
space is available.

PREPARING THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

After describing the lesson plan with the students and giving deadlines as well as
requirements I would start by showing examples and discussing them as a class. I will
show them a run through of the technology we will be using and allowing questions
before working on their own. I would have previously scheduled computer lab or
library appointments and given them options on how to start the assignment.

PHASE 3

EVALUATING THE LESSONS SUCCESS FOR

REVISION NEEDS

I would see how successful students are on completing the

assignment. During the lesson I would take note on what students
have more difficulty with to further explain to the entire class. I will
be available to the class for one on one conversations and realizing
what information is needed for them to be more understanding of
the assignment. Once the assignment is complete I would take
comments on what the students thought of the lesson. Through the
school year seeing if students use the flyers on the wall as
reference points for other assignments will help me know if the
lesson was successful. If certain aspects of lesson did not benefit
the student, consideration on changing it should be made for the
following year.

LESSON DESCRIPTION (DETAILS)

2 week Artist Research lesson plan for High School (grades 9-12)
Monday: Assign lesson, give examples, show students ways on how to approach and
answer questions.
Tuesday: Go to the Computer lab/Library as a class for research on 5 artists (part 1).
Wednesday: Present Part 1 to class, students will vote on which Artist their peer should
emphasize on.
Thursday: Research day on selected artist (Computer lab/Library).
Friday: Research day and further explanation of flyer format.
Over the weekend students should complete there flyer .
Monday: Printed Flyer rough draft due (part 2) critique and presentation slots assigned.
Tuesday: Presentation and final Flyer due.
Wednesday: Presentation and final Flyer due.
Thursday: If needed more presentation time if not next lesson plan should be ready to
assign.
