Title==Previous mountings
Contents==When a bearing has been mounted on a shaft the mating surfaces get smo
othened. When calculating the drive-up distance it must thus be considered how m
any times the bearing has been mounted on the same shaft.

<strong>Interference reduction due to smoothing</strong>
<p>
Smoothing is particularly important to consider for small-size bearings.
<p>
The drive-up values Ss given in the tables include an interference co
mpensation for smoothing valid for one sliding surface, new SKF components and s
haft surface roughness Ra = 1,6 &mu;m.
<p>
If the mating surfaces are worn, e.g. the bearing has been mounted several times
before and/or there are two sliding surfaces, the interference reduction due to
smoothing is different. A calculation is then recommended.
<p>
For large size bearings the influence of smoothing is in most cases negligible.
Only if the shaft surface is very rough does a compensation have to be considere
d.
