Course Policies: Students are expected to adhere to all policies and procedures

Students are expected to adhere to the Pulaski County District Code of Acceptable

Grading
Grades will be based solely upon individual learning and will accurately reflect
achievement of the outcomes as defined by state/national standards. Where there
is insufficient evidence of learning to report a trimester grade, an incomplete will
be used for reporting student achievement.
Class grades and overall course grades are determined in this manner:

20% =

Grades should be an accurate reflection of what students know and how they would
perform on state mandated tests, Advanced Placement, KOSSA, industry recognized
certifications, etc.
80 % reflects mastery of content (common assessments, performance based
assessments)

20% reflects the practice to reach mastery (homework, quizzes, etc.)

Both categories together will be the Assessment category and be worth 80% of
the class level grade.
To determine the final school level course grade at the end of the course, an End of
Course (EOC) assessment or course final will be administered. The total class
grade will be worth 80% and the final assessment or EOC will be worth 20% of the
final course grade.

For choir, the formative assessment will include performances, singing

tests, and written tests. Attendance at performances is required. Written
theory tests and individual singing tests will be given at least once a
grading term. The summative assessment will include weekly
participation and theory homework. Weekly participation grades are
given based on the rubric below.
A music theory pretest will be given at the beginning of each grading
term. Students scoring a 95% or above will be exempt from any following
theory homework or tests for that trimester.

Setting and Communicating Clear Direction:

Since choir is a performance course, there will be only one major unit of study
based on the following learning targets:
1. I CAN sing a variety of literature accurately and expressively.
2. I CAN evaluate my performance and our groups performances.

Students should expect to sing everyday. Each class will include warm-ups, sightreading, and practicing literature. While students are invited to participate in
several extra choral events, the only required/graded events are the Fall, Winter,
and Spring concerts. Dates for these concerts will be published as soon as they are
available.

Choir Fees:
While there are currently no fees associated with choir, all students performing with
the choir outside of the required concerts (nursing home visits, homecoming, etc)
must purchase a choir t-shirt. They are $12. Ms. Braun will take orders at the
beginning of each grading term. T-shirts will not change from year to year, so it is
something that can be work all four years at PCHS. Students who purchased a Tshirt last year do not need to purchase a new one this year. All other concert attire
will be provided by the school.
Every effort is made to provide students with original copies of their choral music to
adhere to copyright laws. This is costly, but necessary. Students will be assigned a
folder number with music numbered accordingly at the beginning of the trimester.
These folders will be just like a textbook. Students are responsible for any lost or
damaged folders and music. The cost of replacing a folder is $25.
