COURSE CONTENT
This course will cover the economic foundations of the United States. You will learn about the
free enterprise system, factors of production, supply, demand, trade-offs, opportunity costs,
and other concepts in economics. You will explore your role as citizens, consumers, producers,
and taxpayers while studying fundamental economic principles. Economics includes five main
units which are fundamentals, microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and
personal finance.
MATERIALS
Students are required to attend class each day with the following materials:
Assigned textbook
Notebook with paper, writing utensils, and all handouts
Willingness to learn

EXPECTATIONS FOR BEHAVIOR


1. Be in your seat when the bell rings, pencil already sharpened.
2. Please raise your hand and be recognized by the teacher before speaking.
3. Be courteous to your classmates, teacher, and all guests.
4. Keep hands, feet, and all other objects to yourself.
5. No Food or drink are allowed in class.
6. Remain in your seat until your teacher dismisses you.
7. CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
As per the schools policy, cell phones are not to be used during class time unless
directed by the teacher for instructional purposes. THE TEACHER WILL NOT SPEND A
VAST AMOUNT OF TIME POLICING CELL PHONES. At your teachers discretion, policy
violators will be required to store their phones in a safe location of your instructors
choosing. Students are allowed to bring certain technologies to class (iPad, laptop,
Kindle, etc.), but these should NOT interfere with the teaching or others learning.
Phone use that causes a persistent distraction will be dealt with, with more serious
consequences.
The following is the MHS five step sequence of consequences when classroom behavior is subpar:
1. Student is issued a warning.
2. Student has a brief conference with the teacher after class.
3. Student is issued a detention to be served within two days.

4. Parent is called and informed of the problem.


5. Student is referred to an administrator.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Students are expected to:
1. Attend class prepared and on a consistent basis.
2. Head their paper with name, date, period, and assignment name.
3. Be attentive and participate in class.
4. Check all work for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and neatness.
5. Complete all work in a timely manner.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
Cheating is considered a serious matter. Any student who is involved in cheating/plagiarism
will receive a grade of zero on the material, an unsatisfactory in conduct, and his/her parents
will be notified.
For this course, cheating is defined as, but is not limited to, the following acts:
Copying anyone's answers to questions, exercises, study guides, class work or
homework assignments.
Taking any information verbatim from any source, including the Internet, without giving
proper credit to the author, or rearranging the order of words and/or changing some
words as written by the author and claiming the work as his or her own, i.e., plagiarism.
Looking onto another student's paper during a test or quiz.
Having available any study notes or other test aids during a test or quiz without the
teacher's permission.
Collaborating on assignments when independent work is expected.
CLASSROOM BLOG:
Throughout the semester, students are expected to check the class Schoology portal on a daily
basis. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check the blog and come prepared to the
next class. All handouts and assignments will be posted to Schoology and/or uploaded to our
Weebly site at http://cbishopedumhs.weebly.com/

FLIPPED CLASSROOM MODULE: Economics is composed of 5 units. The unit entitled
Personal Finance is composed of independent student activities and will be delivered entirely
as a Flipped (online) module. Students will need to budget time and find access to a desktop
computer that has printing capabilities on a weekly basis.
