Helpful Guidelines for Parents/Guardians

RNE 2015/2016
Check-in for visitors/volunteers: Safety is of utmost importance on our campus, and for that reason a new
program has been implemented throughout the school district. Once a visitor is buzzed-in the front door, all
guests to our building will be required to complete an initial registration process. First- time visitors will be
required to present their drivers license or another form of government photo to office staff for verification of
identity. We value your time and will try to make this as quick and simple as possible.
Volunteering: Starting with the 2014-2015 school year, all volunteers will have to register through the FCS
safety web page PRIOR to volunteering. The link has been added to the RNE web page.
Birthday Treats: Due to the increasing number of food allergies we ask that birthday celebration treats be nonfood items. Suggestions include pencils, stickers, etc. The front office staff will make sure that the teacher is
aware that the items were dropped off and the students will receive them that day.
Visiting a Classroom: In order to preserve the instructional program for all students and teachers, visitation is
not allowed in the classroom during the school day unless previously approved and arranged through school
administration.
Afternoon transportation changes: The morning of the requested change, send a note to your childs teacher
detailing the requested change for the day. Transportation changes should be kept to a minimum. (During ITBS
and other testing times, early check-outs are not allowed).
Please include the following information in a note to your childs teacher:
Date of the change (please send notes the morning of the requested change)
Teachers Name and Grade
Students first and last name
How your child will be going home. (If someone on your childs approved contact list will be picking up
your child from school, please provide their first name, last name and phone number).
Parent/guardian signature and phone number to call if there are any questions.
To insure the safety of our students, no verbal transportation changes will be accepted.
All requests must be in writing and received by the teacher
on the morning of the requested change.
Early Check-out procedure: Early check-out from school must be before 2:00 p.m. due to the arrival of
buses for dismissal. If you come to the school after 2:00 p.m., you may be blocked in by the buses. Bring your
photo identification when you come to the front office to sign out your child.
.
Can my child ride a different bus home with a friend for a play date? No. Due to liability issues, Fulton
County does not allow children to ride a bus other than their assigned bus to another students home for play
dates, birthday parties, etc.

Carpool: Register for a carpool number at Open House which is occurs a few days before the first day of school.
Display the number on the dash/windshield of your car. The carpool driveway is located on the right side of the
building, in front of the gym. Morning carpool is open 7:10 7:35 a.m. Afternoon carpool is open 2:20 2:45
p.m. For the safety of our students and staff, drive slowly and do not talk or text on cell phones while you are in
the carpool line.
Tardies: The morning bell rings and academic instruction begins at 7:40 a.m. We ask that all students be in their
classrooms by 7:35 a.m. so that the day starts off smoothly. It is the parent/guardians responsibility to have

students at school on time. Students who arrive after the bell has rung must be signed in at the front office by a
parent. Parents must park and walk your child to the front office. Please pull into a parking space. Our Fire Lane
must remain unobstructed.
Absences: You do not have to call the school if your child is sick. Send a written note to your childs teacher
upon his/her return to school stating the reason for the absence. Written notes are required by the state for
documentation. If your child had a doctors visit, the doctors note should also be turned in to the teacher. Email
messages and telephone messages are not accepted as excuse notes. Teachers need to receive excuse notes no
later than 3 days after the absence.
Lunch with children: It is requested that you wait until after the fourth week of school to eat lunch with
your child. Beginning September 8th, you are welcome to have lunch with your student. Sign in at the front
office a few minutes before your childs lunch time. Your child will meet you in the lobby by the cafeteria when
the class comes to lunch. (The Fulton County Food and Nutrition Office request that no outside vendor food
products be brought in to the cafeteria).
Requesting a teacher meeting/conference: Email or call your childs teacher to set up a time/day for a
conference. In addition, there is a designated Parent Conference day in October. Appointments and conferences
are set before or after school hours.
Forgotten lunch procedure: Come to the front office and fill out the Forgotten Lunch form. Parents take
the lunch to the cafeteria to be placed on the Forgotten Lunch shelf. The office staff will notify the teacher.
Your child will pick it up at his/her lunch time.
Forgotten homework/project procedure: Bring the item to the front office. Be sure to write your childs name
on the homework folder or project. The office staff will notify the teacher by putting a note in their mailbox.
(Classroom instructional time cannot be disturbed by intercom notification of forgotten homework or projects).
Forgot to take home a book/homework/ assignment procedure: Once school has been dismissed and all
students have left the building, students may not re-enter the classrooms.
My child is sick and I need to request homework or work missed. What do I do? Call the front office no
later than 9:30 a.m. The homework will be available after 3:00 p.m. that day. Call the front office before you
come to pick up the work to verify that the work has been delivered to the office. (Work may be sent home with a
sibling if that is preferred).
