Republicans (Jefferson and Madison Resemble the Federalists of the 1790’s in their Domestic and Foreign Policies? The Jeffersonian Republicans resemble the Federalists of the 1790’s due to their similarities in the fact that they wanted to stay out of a war with European nations, and kept the government in the high elite. Federalists believed that we should maintain peace with Britain and France at all costs, and Jefferson believed this as well. In fact, the man did everything he possibly could in order to stay out of a war, but it was simply fate to launch the war of 1812, a war that was nearly lost. In this Jefferson acted up Federalist ideals as he most Democratic leaders at the time would have pounced for an opportunity to go to war with their long time rival. Another reason Jefferson and Madison resembled Federalist ideals was that they kept the control of government in the hands of the high elite, unlike most Democratic leaders at the time that wanted the government to be in the hands of the states. Jefferson and Madison picked selected high officials, whom were obviously of the elite, into office, and did not welcome the common idea into the white house.
