Kesumba (Bixa orellana L) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang
digunakan oleh sebagian besar masyarakat Indonesia sebagai
pewarna alami yang mengandung pigmen dari golongan di-apo
karotenoid dengan komposisi bixin (C25H30O4) sebesar 83,41
4,54% dan norbixin (C24H28O4) sebagai komponen minor sebesar
19,191,56%. Penggunaan pewarna alami dalam formulasi lipstik
merupakan salah satu solusi untuk menghindari penggunaan pewarna
sintetik yang berbahaya. Metode penelitian dimulai dari
pengumpulan bahan baku, Pembuatan ekstrak biji Kesumba (Bixa
orellana L) dan penentuan formula basis terbaik yang nantinya akan
ditambahkan zat warna alami dari ekstrak biji Kesumba (Bixa
orellana L) dengan berbagai konsentrasi dan dievaluasi. Sediaan
lipstik dibuat dalam tiga formula, dengan menggunakan ekstrak biji
kesumba sebagai pewarna dengan konsentrasi dua persen, empat
persen dan enam persen. Evaluasi terhadap sediaan yang dibuat yaitu
pemeriksaan mutu fisik sediaan mencakup uji stabilitas,
homogenitas, titik lebur, uji kekuatan lipstik, pelepasan zat warna
(uji oles), uji iritasi dan uji kesukaan. Dari hasil pembuatan ekstrak
biji kesumba (Bixa orellana L) diperoleh ekstrak kental 17.7 gram
dan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sediaan yang dibuat stabil
dalam penyimpanan, serta mempunyai susunan yang homogen,
memiliki titik lebur antara 50.50C-51.40C dan aman digunakan
karena tidak terjadi iritasi. Formula yang disukai oleh panelis adalah
Formula dua dengan konsentrasi ekstrak biji kesumba empat persen.

FORMULATION OF LIPSTICK CONTAIN ANNATTO SEED

Annatto (Bixa orellana L) is one of the plants used by most of
Indonesians as a natural dye-containing pigment of the main groups
of apo carotenoid-with the content of 83.41 4.54% bixin
(C25H30O4) as the main component and 19.19 1.56% norbixin
(C24H28O4) as minor component. The use of natural dyes in the
formulation of lipstick is a solution to avoid the use of harmful
synthetic dyes. Research was started by collection of raw materials,
preparation of viscous annatto seed extract and determination of the
best base formula that will be used. Natural pigments of annatto
seed extract at various concentrations was used and evaluated. The
preparation of lipstick was formulated in three formulas, with the
addition of annatto seed extract at a concentration of two percent,
four percent, and six percent. The evaluation of the lipstick was
stability test, observation of homogeneity, melting point test, strength
test, dye release examination (smear test), irritation test, and
Hedonic test. The rendemen of the making of annatto seed extract
was 17.7 grams viscous extract, and the result showed that the
preparation made was stable in the storage, with homogeneous
composition, the melting point was 50.5C- 51.4 C and be used
safely because the irritation did not occured. The most preferred
formula was Formula two with a concentration of four percent of
annatto seed extract.
