Miss H Root / 2014-2015 SY/ Alg IB

August 27, 2015

Dear Students, Parents and Sponsors:
Welcome to Wiesbaden High School home of the Warriors. I am looking forward to an exciting year at WHS.
Together I am confident we will make this year an interesting and rewarding educational experience for your
son/daughter.
In order to foster a successful learning environment, students are expected to bring all necessary material to class
daily. Each student is required to have a section in their binder for class, dividers (to form 2 or 3 sections), paper,
pencil and pen (blue or black ink only). The binder will contain quarter cumulative assignments.
Detailed information regarding expectations/consequences, grading policies, assignments, etc. may be found at:
http://teacherweb.com/AE/WiesbadenHighSchool/Root/. I encourage you to review this site regularly.
This Algebra IB class will use the Flipped-Mastery approach. All materials can be found at
http://www.flippedmath.com/. Flipped? What does that mean? Heres a little map of what it looks like:

Corrective
Assignment

After watching each lesson students will need to complete a packet which consists of taking notes, doing bookwork
and completing application problems. Video lessons can be watched anywhere.
Bookwork answers can be found online and should be checked by students. Students will have access to the
answers right away, but copying down the answers wont do any good if the process isnt learned.
Application answers will be checked by the teacher. Application problems are graded!
Each lesson is accompanied by a master check. Scores of mastery (80% or higher) will be recorded as full credit.
Scores below 80% will be recorded reflecting the percentage earned. Students with scores less than 80% are
afforded the opportunity to retake their quizzes by completing a corrective assignment (available online). All quiz
retakes must be completed prior to the respective unit test.
If you have any questions or concerns, I can be reached at Wiesbaden High School by phone at DSN: 337-2260,
CIV: 0611-705-2260 or email: Holly.Root@eu.dodea.edu. Please leave a message; I will return your contact as soon
as possible. I look forward to working with you and your son/daughter.
Sincerely,

Miss Holly Root
