Mr. Wilson, room 227

Welcome!

Hello scientists! I am looking forward to a great year with you!

What is 7th
Grade Science?

What causes storms? Why do earthquakes happen? How can we
predict the motion of an object? How does science produce
knowledge? We will answer these questions and more this year in
science

In 7th grade science we will explore the world around us through a
series of hands-on activities and investigations. First we will explore
the earths natural processes that create catastrophic events such as
storms, earthquakes, and volcanoes. Then we will investigate the
relationship between forces and motion, and how machines reduce
the effort needed to do work. Throughout the year we will be learning
how energy is involved in these topics and we will continue to
develop skills in designing and conducting scientific investigations.

What materials
do I need for
science class?

Required:
A section in your 3-ring binder just for science stuff!
A composition book (Science Journal)
Planner

Not required but nice to have:
Glue stick or scotch tape (to attach work in Science Journal)
Calculator, ruler, colored pencils, scissors

What will I be
graded or
evaluated on?

You will be graded or evaluated on district and state science
standards. Each assignment will be directly related to one or more of
these standards. You will be introduced to each standard and the
related performance expectations as we go through the year.

How will I be
graded?

We will spend time in class and with each
assignment clarifying what meeting the

Mr. Wilson:
I attended public schools, grades K through 12, in a small town in
Northern California before I left home to serve six years in the U.S. Air
Force as an electronics technician. After using the G.I. Bill to get my
Bachelors of Science from the University of North Dakota I worked as
a physical science technician in the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S.
Geological Survey. I have lived in Bellingham since 2010 and attended
WWU to obtain my teaching certification and Masters degree in
Teaching. In my spare time I enjoy mountain biking, climbing, going
on adventures with my wife (Anna), and spending time with friends
and family.

I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to
keep the lines of communication open with you. I am available every
day to talk with you between 7:50 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. and
between 1:50 p.m. and 3:20 p.m.

Please dont hesitate to contact me at 360-332-8226 ext. 1227 or
