United Airlines Flight Privileges Guide

JOINING THE UNITED FLIGHT PRIVILEGES PROGRAM

ExpressJet employees may enjoy non-revenue/reduced rate travel on ExpressJet, United and United Express
flights by opting in during the annual Open Enrollment period and paying any applicable fees. By opting in,
employees receive global access to all United and United Express travel and the ability to authorize up to two
Enrolled Friends.
There is no opt-in fee for ExpressJet employees and their eligible dependents (children, spouse/domestic
partner and/or up to two parents). Employees who elect an Enrolled Friend(s) must pay the associated optin fees (outlined in the Enrolled Friend Program section) during the Open Enrollment period. The opt-in fees
must be paid via xjet.com using a credit or debit card, PayPal or payroll deduction.

EMPLOYEE, SPOUSE, DOMESTIC PARTNER AND CHILDREN

ExpressJet employees, spouse/domestic partner and/or eligible dependent children

will be allotted unlimited
travel on domestic and international flights according to the boarding priorities outlined below. Employees,
spouse/domestic partner and dependent children are not charged yield fares for travel. See the non-revenue
boarding priority chart below .
United classifies dependent children as unmarried children or stepchildren that are claimed as dependents by
the employee, living with the employee, and who are under the age of 22. Dependent children who are enrolled
as full-time students or actively serving in the military are eligible through age 26. Proper documentation is
required. A same-sex or opposite-sex domestic partner may be selected in lieu of a spouse and travel at the
same priority as a spouse. Documentation of domestic partnership required.

PARENTS OF EMPLOYEES

A total of two parents are eligible for United pass travel. Parents are allotted unlimited domestic and international
travel on flights operated by United and other United Express carriers. Parents will be charged segment fees
for travel.
Parents include the employees biological father and mother, stepparents who are married to one of the
employees biological parents, and adoptive parents who legally adopted the employee prior to the employees
18th birthday. In-laws are not eligible.

ENROLLED FRIEND PROGRAM

Each calendar year, employees may register to elect an Enrolled Friend(s). Unmarried employees may register
up to two Enrolled Friends (in lieu of a spouse/domestic partner). Employees with a registered spouse/
domestic partner may register one Enrolled Friend in addition to their spouse/domestic partner. Employees
who do not wish to include their spouse/domestic partner on their flight privileges may choose up to two
Enrolled Friends.
The opt-in fee is $100 for the first Enrolled Friend and $200 for the second Enrolled Friend, with no base or
segment fees applied. Both Enrolled Friends are subject to imputed income charges and segment fees on all
of their travel. Make sure you understand how imputed income can affect your paycheck and taxes.

USING FLYING TOGETHER AND EMPLOYEERES

Employees can list for United and United Express flights through employeeRES available on Uniteds Flying
Together site. All employees will be assigned an n number that is used to access the site. ID numbers begin
with an n, followed by six digits available on xjt.com > Travel > My Travelers. Using the employeeRES tool,
employees can search and list for flights, check seat availability and view the number of standby passengers
listed. Travel listings can also be made using Uniteds voice response line at 800-UAL-LIST (800-825-5478).

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

ExpressJet employees, spouses, domestic partners, Enrolled Friends, parents and dependent children are
allotted unlimited travel on international flights operated by ExpressJet, United and other United Express
carriers. Taxes and other fees may apply to international travel, and must be prepaid as outlined in the Billing
and Refunds section. Both Enrolled Friends are subject to imputed tax income.

FIRST CLASS AND BUSINESS CLASS UPGRADES

Employees and their eligible pass riders may standby for space-available travel in the First and Business Class
cabins. If upgraded to First or Business Class, a segment fee will be charged for travel. The fee applies any time
the employee and/or pass riders are seated in a First or Business Class cabin, even if those are the only seats
available for a flight. Applicable fees will be prepaid before travel.

International First Class Cabin - Employees and their spouse or domestic partner may travel in
International First Class. Other eligible pass riders may travel in International First Class only when
accompanied by the employee or spouse/domestic partner. All travelers must be age 18 or older to
travel in International First Class.

International Business Class Cabin - Employees and their pass riders may travel in International Business
Class without being accompanied by the employee. Children age 8 to 11 may only travel in International
Business Class when accompanied by an adult. Children age 12 or older may travel unaccompanied in
International Business Class.

CHECKED BAGGAGE

Employees traveling space-available or positive-space are exempt from the first bag and second bag checked
fees, as are all pass riders. The same baggage size, allowance and liability limitations that apply to revenue
passengers also apply to NRSA or reduced-fare pleasure travelers. Charges for excess baggage and excess
valuation are the same as for revenue passengers. Revenue passenger rules apply. Baggage may not be
delivered if a late check-in or a change of itinerary has occurred.
International NRSA travelers may check their baggage through on a standby basis only. They will receive a
status pending bag tag and, when they are cleared by the gateway city, their bags will then be boarded. If
they are not cleared, they may reclaim their bags in the baggage claim area.

TRAVELING WITH INFANTS

Infant car seats will be accepted as checked baggage at no charge. For infants occupying a seat in a car seat or
other type of infant seat onboard the aircraft, the employee must list the infant as a space available passenger.

EMERGENCY TRAVEL

ExpressJet employees, their spouse and children are eligible for positive-space, emergency travel to the scene of serious illness,
injury or death of an immediate family member. Only those eligible family members enrolled in the pass travel program will be
eligible. Parents are not eligible for emergency travel unless the emergency involves someone listed on the pass rider list, excluding
Enrolled Friends. Emergency travel must be requested through xjt.com > Travel >Travel Requests and approved by the Pass Bureau.
Return trips are not eligible for positive-space seats; employees must list for space-available accommodations.

DRESS CODE

United now has a relaxed dress code for all classes of service, though customer service makes the final
determination of whether a pass rider is dressed appropriately for non-revenue travel. Below are some general
rules to follow:

Pass riders overall appearance should be well-groomed, neat, clean and in good taste
Attire should be respectful of fellow revenue passengers, employees and pass riders
Pass riders may wear denim attire (such as jeans), shorts that are no more than three inches above the
knee and athletic shoes when traveling in Coach, First or BusinessFirst/Business cabins

The following attire is not acceptable in any class of service:

Any attire the reveals a midriff

Attire that reveals any type of undergarment
Attire that is designated as sleepwear, underwear, or swimwear
Mini skirts
Shorts that do not meet three inches above the knee when in the standing position
Form-fitting lycra/spandex tops, pants and dresses
Attire that has offensive and/or derogatory terminology or graphics
Attire that is excessively dirty or has holes/tears
Any attire that is provacative, inappropriately revealing, or see-through clothing
Bare feet
Beach-type, rubber flip-flops

BILLING AND REFUNDS

United travel charges are prepaid at time of booking. Fares and upgrade charges can be verified using the Fare
Calculator available on Flying Together. It may be necessary to request refunds of unused, prepaid tickets. Use
the online tool located at United.com > Reservations > Refunds to request a refund of unused flight(s).

IMPUTED INCOME

The Internal Revenue Service does not recognize an Enrolled Friend or Domestic Partner relationship in the
same way that it does a marriage for tax purposes. Under current law, employees are taxed on travel privileges
provided to an Enrolled Friend or Domestic Partner who does not qualify as a dependent under IRS Code
152(d).
For tax purposes, the difference between the service charge and the companion fare for the segment flown will
be added to the employees income (imputed income). You can estimate the imputed income cost via flyingtogether > employeeRES > Quick Links > Pass Calculator, or by using the equations below to determine your
tax withholding:
Tax Value x Tax Rate = Tax Withholding
Tax Rate = FICA % + Federal % + State % (if applicable)
Tax Value = (Y Fare x 10%) Service Charge

Y Fare: The lowest one-way fare available on the day of travel for each flight segment.
Service Charge: Additional fees that may be charged before travel based on market conditions, class of
travel and/or distance flown. If the service charges are equal to or greater than 10% of the Y fare, no
imputed income is charged.
Tax Value: The taxable value of the flight.
Tax Rate: Total percentage of all taxes withheld on your paycheck; includes FICA, federal and may
include state tax. The tax rate determines how much tax you pay on the Tax Value of the travel.
Tax Withholding: The total amount of taxes paid on the Tax Value amount of the flight segment. t

The employees net paycheck will be less than it would be without the imputed income since the imputed income is subject to applicable income withholding and FICA taxes. The employees W-2 will include total imputed income along with other compensation in Box 1. Cabin upgrade charges are not subject to imputed income.

SPACE-AVAILABLE BOARDING PRIORITY CHART
