*Sung Introit:

When We Are Living

VU 581

When we are living, it is in Christ Jesus,

and when were dying, it is in the Lord.
Both in our living and in our dying,
We belong to God, we belong to God.

*Passing of the Peace

*The Call to Worship:
Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them
around your neck; write them on the tablets of your heart, so
you will find favour and good repute in the sight of God and
of people. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do
not rely on your own insight.

In all your ways acknowledge God, and God will make

straight your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear
the Lord, and turn away from evil.
Lets praise and honour the good name of God, and in our
worshiping pray for fidelity and wisdom

*The Opening Prayer:

All-knowing, all-wise God, we gather as a people who need
your direction to live wisely, and your strength to live
faithfully. You have shown us the way in Jesus, and
imprinted his name upon us who choose to follow him. We
celebrate today with gratitude for the gift of his Spirit, and
pray to grow to emulate him in character and purpose,
praying now his prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven...

*Hymn:

*Response:

Your Work O God Needs Many Hands

VU 537

Your work, O God, needs many hands to help you

everywhere, and some there are who cannot serve unless our
gifts we share.
Because we love you and your work, our offering now we
make; be pleased to use it as your own, we ask for Jesus
sake.

*The Prayer of Dedication:

Caring God, your Spirit-life within moves us to follow the way of
wisdom rather than the way of the world. We choose to care for
others, not just ourselves. We offer these resources and
ourselves for the work and witness of Christs church in this
community and beyond, for our sisters and brothers in
distress whatever the need. Bless our gifts and we who give,
we pray.

Prayers of the People

*Hymn:

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

VU 651

*Commissioning & Blessing

*Sung Blessing: Go Now in Peace
Go now in peace, never be afraid,
God will go with you each hour of everyday.

Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true.

Know he will guide you in all you do.
Go now in love and show you believe,
Reach out to others so all the world can see.
God will be there watching from above,
Go now in peace, in faith and in love.

Community and Justice Work

Celebrate Gods Presence

The first time I meet Pat is at a church gathering. She is an
energetic and intelligent 70-something-year-old who is active in
her church and community.
The second time I meet Pat she is in a hospital bed recovering
from surgery. She is tired and weak but seems delighted to see
the United Church hospital chaplain arrive at her bedside. Pat is
optimistic about her recovery and talks enthusiastically about her
work in the church and about her faith. I watch as her recovery
progresses and am happy to see her regain most of her former
strength.
The third time I meet Pat, a few months later, she is in a different
hospital bed in a different hospital. A stroke has incapacitated one
side of her body. Her speech is slow and slurred, and her
handshakes when she reaches for a slice of toast on the tray in
front of her. She looks discouraged as she unsuccessfully fumbles
to cut the toast in half. Can you cut this for me? she asks. I take
the knife from Pat and begin cutting. I am briefly reminded of all
the times throughout the years in which I have broken bread with
the people of the church.
This is a sacred moment.
My name is Val Cottrill, and I am the United Church chaplain for
the three hospitals of Regina. Gods love and compassion are
extended to hundreds of people and their families every year
through the efforts of all those who work in the South
Saskatchewan Hospital Chaplaincy. This life-giving ministry can
be provided because of our gifts for Mission and Service. On
behalf of the people we serve in south Saskatchewan, thank you.

Mighty and tender God, our gifts to M&S help your church
to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you.
