Guitar Classical 10 weeks 6pm 7.

Learn to play classical guitar with confidence. The class will introduce
the fundamentals of classical guitar technique while emphasizing its
application to practical musical situations. No previous experience
needed. You should have a nylon-strung guitar
Lessons Plan
Week 1 - 3

Introducing the instrument and its sounds


Establishing a correct posture (maintaining posture while playing)
Basic right hand techniques and open string exercise
Elementary notation
Use of open strings in short pieces
Introducing the left hand
Discovering the fingerboard
Theory work

Week 3 - 5

Initial exercises and musical material for beginners


Methods of practising learning how to learn
Theory work
Guitar playing techniques including:
- melody playing
- free stroke and rest stroke in the right hand
- chord playing as a harmonic accompaniment
- special effects including tambora, harmonics, pizzicato
playing a simple melody to harmonic accompaniment

Week 5 -10

Technical exercises
Pieces and studies
Identifying common faults in technique and /or musical approach
Understanding the causes of such difficulties and prescribing suitable
remedies
Tuning the guitar
1 octave scales
Memorising and revising repertoire

Guitar Classic Orchestra 10 weeks 7.45pm 9.15pm


As a player in the orchestra, you will learn classical techniques as an addition to your
repertoire, including free stroke, easy scales, elementary solo pieces and group playing
from a diverse musical repertoire. You will have successfully completed beginners guitar
course or at an equivalent intermediate level
