ACADEMIC VOCABULARY THINK-TAC-TOE , AC ELA, 6th Grade

Directions: Below is a think-tac-toe that will help you to understand our first quarter terms. Using the academic vocabulary-rating sheet, make sure you use all terms
(other than the grammar/language terms). You must create a tic-tac-toe by completing 3 different tasks. All digital projects should be linked to your class Padlet wall that
you may access through the homepage of my website. In completing the assignment, you must use all of the terms from the unit other than the grammar/language terms.
Digital options should be shared on your class Padlet wall: www.padlet.com/mayawoodall/2 (2nd period), www.padlet.com/mayawoodall/3 (3rd period),
www.padlet.com/mayawoodall/4 (4th period).

NARRATIVE ACROSTIC
1. Create an acrostic poem. Write the word
NARRATIVE vertically on a piece of unlined
paper. Each letter is used in the construction
of phrases or sentences applying academic
vocabulary terms related to narrative texts as
well as narrative writing. The sentences and
phrases should clearly show your
understanding of the terms.

PADLET VOCAB WALL

2. Create a Padlet (Padlet.com) academic
vocabulary review board using all of the
narrative terms. Must Include: the term,
an explanation of the term, & an image
(DIGITAL). NOTE: THIS COUNTS AS 2,
SINCE YOU ARE USING ALL 31
WORDS.

ANCHOR CHART
3. Create a poster/anchor chart that teaches
others at least 4 academic vocabulary terms.
Be sure to include both pictures and words.
Also, include words that are related. Your
goal is to create a poster that someone can
see from across the room. This poster should
help students understand the concepts.

CONCEPT CIRCLES
4. Create concept circles for six words. You
should brainstorm at least three synonyms
(and one antonym or odd man out) for each
word. Make concept circles neat, large, and
readable with 3 correct answers and one
incorrect answer. On the back of the circle, you
should have a key that gives the academic
vocabulary term as well as the odd man out.

SIMILES
5. Create a simile with a visual/picture for
six of the vocabulary words. A simile is a
comparison of two things or ideas using
like or as. It is not enough just to write
the simile, you must explain it, too.
(DIGITAL OPTION: USE ANIMOTO OR
PADLET FOR THIS)

SUMMARIZE
6. Summarize the unit using 10 of the
assigned words. Be sure to be clear as to
what you studied and learned along the way.
You are summarizing your study of narrative
reading and writing. Terms should be underlined, and should include context clues.

VOCABULARY QUIZ/KAHOOT
7. Create an applied vocabulary quiz for 10 of
the academic vocabulary words. Be sure to
apply words not just define words. Make
sure you have an answer key. BOOST YOUR
SCORE BY CREATING A KAHOOT OF YOUR
QUIZ (DIGITAL). When you finish creating your
Kahoot, click share and share it with me using
my Kahoot username, mayawoodall.

CATEGORIES
8. Categorize 10 of the words into two
groups. Then write a 4-5 sentence
paragraph explaining why each word fits
into category you put it in. Explanation
should involve application of the
definition.

MYON BOOK CRITIC

9. On myon.com read the graphic novel
adaptation of Edgar Allan Poes Tell Tale
Heart. Become a critic by applying the
following words to the adaptation: analyze,
evaluate, justify, quote, paraphrase,
summarize, cite, integrate, plot, character,
setting, theme (DIGITAL READING).

Project Due: Friday, October 10 at the beginning of class. You may SHARE one square with a partner on the first day of the project. Also, see me if you
