Resources/Preparations
A smart board or other multimedia device will be needed to show students a you tube video
You tube video ready to be viewed:

Appropriate number of baseballs and baseball gloves (based on a class of twenty students)
Students to bring pen and paper to record their results

Safety Considerations
Appropriate warm up activities before commencing practical activities stretching, short jog around the oval
Ensure all students are aware of the appropriate behavioural procedures during P.E. Lessons
Ensure there is appropriate spacing between students when catching activities commence

Demonstrate with a
volunteer student what the
process of the catching task
involves, going through the
video process
Ask students to pair up and
collect one tennis ball
First task will involve
students catching a tennis
ball without a glove. First the
students will use two hands
and then try with one hand
and then rotating their hand
upwards as in the video.
Students will record their
data
Second task will involve
students retrieving a
baseball glove and baseball.
Students will again practise
the same task using the
correct way to angle their
glove with the appropriate
hand (opposite to their
dominate hand). Students
will record their data

Teacher to show students the


correct way of catching the
baseball using the baseball
glove by referring to the video
viewed

Pair students of high ability with


students who have limited
knowledge,

remembering the correct
process of pointing fingers
down for below waist
catching and pointing
fingers upwards for above
waist catching

Students will then practise


more advanced techniques
such as moving further away
from each other and moving
side to side. Students will
continue to record their data
