You must choose FOUR of the following activities to complete for a 70% assessment grade.

Create a 15 word vocabulary word search or crossword puzzle, with answer keys. Your
words should be from your novel. There should be a word list with definitions and page
numbers to accompany the word search and crossword. For the definitions you need to
use a dictionary or an online resource. Definitions should match how the word is used
in the novel. Go to http://worksheets.theteacherscorner.net/make-your-own/word-search/ or
http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com to make your own word search or crossword
puzzle. {Vocabulary}
Cut out pictures and words from magazines or find clipart and type words to create a collage of
items representing the book. You must have a minimum of TEN items. Create an 8x10 or
11x14 poster with the Book Title, Author, and a list of explanations for why each item was
chosen and how it relates to your book. {Symbolism}

Fill out a Venn Diagram that shows the similarities and differences between two
characters in your book. You must have 5-10 items in each section. {Compare &

Provide a colored illustration (picture) of the conflict (problem) in the story and write a
paragraph that identifies the conflict and any connections you were able to make.

Design a personal coat of arms for your Historical Fiction novel. It can be about the
book as a whole or a specific character. Use Color! Write a brief paragraph explaining
the symbolism about the coat of arms you created. {Symbolism}
Create a PowerPoint Presentation where each slide represents the 5 stages of Plot:
Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution. Also, add one slide
that lists the Historical Fiction Elements. You should also include a Title Slide with the
Book Title and Author listed. You may include visuals on each slide. Please print the

Research your author and identify the authors purpose for writing your historical
fiction novel. Write one paragraph about your authors background and one paragraph
identifying your authors purpose. {Authors Purpose}

After reading a historical fiction book, make an illustrated/colored timeline showing


events of the story and draw a map showing the location(s) where the story took place.
This may require some research about the setting of the book. Each illustration should
have a small description as well. {Sequence of Events}

Acrostic Poem: {Writing-Poetry}


1. At least a 10 letter word or multiple small words equaling at least 10 letters
or more that has meaning to your book.
2. The acrostic must be written in sentences that create meaning about your
book.
3. Describes a character in your novel.
4. Lists at least one way your book is Historical Fiction.
5. A minimum of 4 pictures or clip art that illustrates your poem.
6. Mounted on construction paper and typed or neatly written in ink.
7. Shows specific details about the novel that you are reading.
Use a shoe or Kleenex box to create a diorama depicting a scene from your novel.
Then include a short 5-7 sentences describing the scene you chose and why it is
representative of your book and Historical FIction. Attach this in a creative way to your
diorama. {
