Abstract. From 2007 till 2008, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL
MIAT) was involved in the testing of a jet engine of type Ivchenko for a company from United Kingdom
called Avcen Limited. Avcen was developing a prototype aircraft called the JetPod which is capable of
short take-off and landing. This paper lays out the processes and activities that were carried out prior and
also pertaining to the engine testing. Tragically the first test flight of the JetPod was unsuccessful with the
plane crashing down after flying hundreds of feet in the air. Inconclusive evidence showed the plane was
not properly balanced which contributed to the crash.
