Course Description: AGR 416 Soil Fertility and Management. (3) A. Prerequisite: AGR 215 and 216. Management of
soils used in turfgrass, vegetable and crop production. Topics include soil fertility and various soil amendments such
as lime, organic and inorganic fertilizers, soil fertility programs, problem soils, and soil conservation

Course Outcomes:
1. Students will recognize the soil properties tied to its ability to provide nutrients to plants.
2. Students will identify correct fertilizer usage and application methods
3. Students will identify various soil problems
4. Students will understand management issues relating to Acidic and Saline soils
5. Students will describe methods for evaluating soils
6. Students will understand soil management principles and practices with respect to soil conservation
7. Students will develop soil management strategies
8. Students will utilize recognized Soil Conservation calculators

the progress exams and project as the course grade.
Student Progress:
Students will be apprised of their progress throughout the semester. Students are advised
to consult the Coronels Compass for the last drop date.
Grading: The final letter grade will be based on a percentage of the semester total. Letter grades will be assigned
as a percentage
A=90-100%; B=80-89%; C=70-79%; D=60-69% F=59% or lower
Withdrawal: No fee is assessed if a course is dropped by the 4th week of classes (Sep 20th)
A $50 per credit fee is charged thereafter. The final day for withdrawal is Nov 15th
Attendance policy: Class Attendance Is Expected! There are no excused absences. Students are responsible for
anything that occurs for every scheduled class period. Students must be present and be involved in laboratory
exercises to receive credit. It is not sufficient to simply complete the forms in the manual.
