Terrorists murder unarmed soldier visiting ailing wife in Davao City

Camp Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City – A soldier visiting his ailing wife in their
home was shot dead by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists in the village of
Lasang in Bunawan District in Davao City 2:00 AM dawn Wednesday.

Corporal Benjie Hupayan, an administrative personnel doing paper works at the


Army’s Military Intelligence Battalion was shot dead by motorcycle riding gunmen using
caliber .45 as he is about to visit his wife who is suffering from heart ailment.

Maj. Gen. Carlos Holganza, head of the army’s 10th Infantry Division condoled
with the family of Hupayan as he slammed the murder of an unarmed soldier. “Even at
dawn Benjie made it a point to go home after receiving a message that his wife is ill. He
is a loving husband and a responsible family man. He is unarmed at that time. This is a
clear violation of the basic tenets of Human rights.” Holganza said.

Friday last week, Felix Valiente a mine tunnel worker was shot dead by NPA
terrorists in the village of Calabcab in Maco, Compostela Valley province while his two
brothers were abducted by the same group afterwards.

Early this year; NPA terrorists murdered Dionesio Baslan Jr., a rebel returnee in
Tagum City. Memylin Moreno a 13 year old girl in Boston, Davao Oriental was also
killed last Valentines’ day. Cafgu member Albino Pablo a 44 year old father of six was
shot by NPA assassins in front of his wife while tending their farm in New Corella in
Davao del Norte while another Cafgu and at the same time “habal-habal” driver,
Florentino Mamuag Jr., was murdered in Davao City.

In 2009, the CPP-NPA gained the flak of Davaoenos when they brutally
murdered two septuagenarians Datu Intoy Baguio 71 years old and Pablo Evero 72
years old as well as the Tulang brothers in Davao City. The elder Tulang was shot on
the head while his two siblings were hogtied, their necks slit and left to bleed to death.
All of them bore torture marks.

In the past, NPA terrorists admitted thru the media that they have carried out
several killings targeting civilians, soldiers conducting peace and development projects,
village officials and elders of indigenous communities.
