Rationale/Reflection

NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 7. EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that
candidates develop the knowledge, skills and professional dispositions
necessary to promote the development and learning of young children across
the entire developmental period of early childhood in at least two of the
three early childhood age groups (birth age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8
years) and in the variety of settings that offer early education (early school
grades, child care centers and homes, Head Start programs). (NAEYC 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:

While enrolled in Ivy Techs Early Childhood Education program I have had
many field experiences. One of the field experiences was in a practicum at
Marion Head Start. I worked with three to four year olds in small groups and
individual settings. My mentor allowed me to plan, implement, and assess
lessons. Another field experience I had was working with a kindergarten
student to do a documentation board for a science activity and presented it
in a power point presentation.

Analysis of What I Learned:

I learned that when in the early childhood field it is important to practice
theory and to connect it with my learning experiences. In the field of early
childhood professionals should use the multiple intelligence, scaffolding, and
then observe and make assessments. I learned through field experiences it is
important for teachers to commit to their teaching philosophy.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the

NAEYC Standard:
This artifact demonstrates my capability in participating in early childhood settings
and experiences. I have gathered knowledge from my early childhood courses and
am able to apply it to real life experiences. I will have many opportunities to apply
what I have learned through my courses and field experience to create meaningful
curriculum and context.
