1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.
(fantasy vs. reality)
Fantasy- many people think that you have total control, many think that its a desk job, and that its not stress.
Reality- You have to report to your director, constantly dealing with patient and staff and its also very stressful.
2. What is your current educational level? What continuing education and training are required?

Master in nursing administration the requirements include having a bachelors degree in nursing as well
as having experience in a supervision. 3 years prefer.
3. Please describe the typical day to day activities of someone working in your field.
(day-to-day activities)
Make rounds to different areas of the facility, check to see if theres any problems, check emails, reply to emails,
making phone calls and communicating with surgeons.

4. How secure are you in your current position? What do you think is the future of your field?

As long as youre doing what youre supposed to be doing there no reason to worry.
5. What is a typical (average or lowest to highest) salary of someone working in your field?

Theres a lot of potential; directors, vp (vise president) etc..

7. Whats one thing about your job you enjoy doing the most?
Enjoy working with my staff members, there very nice and polite as well as responsible.
8. If there was something you could change or adjust from your job what would it be?
The lack of communication between the surgeons and the staff members.
9. What motivated you to work in the health care industry?

I always knew since I was a little girl that I wanted to work on the health care industry.

Working/accomplishing my doctorate degree.

Fantasy: That every patient will have controlled pain, no nausea, and no complications after their surgical
procedure.
Reality: Every patient experiences pain differently and complications from surgical procedures do
happen.

Collaborating with surgeons and anesthesiologist for patient care
Assessing patient, planning, and providing interventions for post surgical patients

Caring for my patients
Nothing ! I love it!

I use to volunteer when I was in the 7th and 8th grade at St. Marys hospital in Galveston. It was a wonderful
experience and it motivated me to become a nurse.
A Masters Degree would be awesome!

This career allows you to associate with people from different backgrounds,
different experiences
Your always learning new techniques, information and rules
Theres always space for improving
Youre not expected to know everything in the guide books but you should be
able to know how to direct someone to the proper guide
Always to polite and respectful
Never let your staff see you lose your cool, close the door from your office
and then do what you must
Be flexible with staff members
Be open minded and willing to help
Something you have to work with managers or directors from different areas
Human Resources are always a good source if you have any questions
Human resources are there to help anyone, it could be a manager or a staff
member
Have to deal with staff and the issues among them
You hire and fire your staff members
A staff member could get you fire
Always have to be at the top of your game and be aware of whats going on
around your facility or designated area
You can create your own schedule as long as you get your 8 hours in every
day
You get paid salary so theres not a specific time that you have to clock in. as
long as you clock
Not everyone will like you but they have to respect you
You might not like every employee however you have to have a professional
working relationship with them
Sometimes staff members are not very positive or like to create problems
Have to address and follow with the disciplinary process when dealing with a
staff member
You can always continue to grow and get a better higher pay

Theres always space for improvement and growth

You work with coworkers from different backgrounds and experiences
Theres many paths on getting your bachelors degree in nursing it all
depends on the individual
Your always assure to have a job
There will be coworkers that cause drama or conflict
However there will be coworkers that will be nice and polite to you
Everyday holds something different or new
You have to be aware of your surrounding at all time
Always be available to your patient or any other nurse that might need
assistance
In special cases you will have to assist in different departments if needed
Always be prepare when you get your patient. They could react different
depending under what medication there on
Feel comfortable with the patient your assigned. Sometimes you will be
require to assist them with a personal concern or issue
Always try to have a positive attitude towards your patient and workplace. It
goes a long way and patients really appreciate it
Sometimes you will be allow to leave earlier if theres no cases or patients
that might need your supervision
Nursing is a continuing teaching job, youre always explaining to your
patients what their case is. What will be happening during surgery,
afterwards and the special cares that it will require.
Before a patient goes into surgery always inform them of what will happen. It
would be difficult to explain it to a patient how is under anesthesia
