Biodiversity and Cultural Diversity of Chile

Chiles appreciable biodiversity contributes to the diverse culture in countless ways. The
culture has adopted many different types of folk music and dances form the indigenous people
what used to surround the land, and the immigrants that made their homes there (Chile World
Encyclopedia of Nations 2015). Chile has regions that speak mainly English and are populated
by mostly Europeans, and heavily indigenous areas that have a deep heritage to the land.
Chile is amazingly bio-diverse, this allows for many different ideal sporting climates and
locations. Surfing, skiing, rodeo, and soccer are many popular sports that are tied to both the
environment and the culture of Chile Because of its location, skiing is a popular sport that is part
of the culture in Chile. People come from all over the world to ski in Santiago (Ski in Chile
2011). The cold climate in the south, it snows on the mountains and is home to tundra
ecosystems. This environment is perfect for skiing, but also tied close to the people who inhabit
that area. The surfing in Chile is incredible because of the many beaches and the right weather
conditions (Surf Guide 2011). Surfing is almost a year-round sport because the coastlines run so
close to the equator and the waves have a strong push. Rodeo is the second most popular sport in
Chile, next to soccer. Rodeo is possible because of the rural areas and desert planes and
environment surrounding it. Rodeo was originally adopted from Spanish settlers, and has quickly
become very deeply rooted into the diverse Chilean culture.
Another way Chiles different culture is tied into the biodiversity is through agriculture
and its natural minerals produced by the ideal environment 13.6% of Chiles population is
employed in agriculture (Encyclopedia of the Nations.)

Farming is valued greatly in Chile and is party of the lively hood of many families.
Farming is made possible by the rich soil and climate. Recently deforestation has affected the
amount of land that can be farmed (Chile World Encyclopedia of Nations 2015). The biodiversity
and various micro-systems that play a part in the growth of crops make farming possible.
Without the different bugs and plants that inhibit the soil, farming would be impossible. Chile is
leading country for exporting copper; this means that mining is also a huge part of the culture
(Encyclopedia of the Nations). Because Chile has such abundant amounts of copper, they are
able to export tons of it around the world and profit greatly from it. The people in Chile value
jobs and the tradition of mining in families, and depend on it for economic balance. Of course,
the mining and exporting would be impossible without the many living and non-living factors
that played a part in the creation of it.
Chile is tied tightly to their bio-diverse country by the many different cultures around
Chile. Without the biodiversity that inhabits Chile, there would be huge unemployment rates and
a lack of cultural diversity. The environment provides the majority of climates, ecosystems and
landscapes for ideal life in Chile.
