Description of Visit
I observed Mr. Lusk
3rd grade
Mathematics class.
When I arrived he
was finished
reviewing and the
students were
doing some
independent
reading.
When I arrived the
students were in
related arts. When
they returned the
lesson they were
working on was
time lapse.

Todays lesson is
multiplication. The
students created
their own
multiplication
chart.

Today the students

were tested on
their multiplication
facts. Each student
was randomly
called up to the
board to solve
multiplication
problems

Reflection
Today was my first
day observing Mr.
Lusk and I like that
he gave the
students time to
read independently
instead of just
letting them go
free until lunch
time.
In my opinion I
think this lesson
could have, been
better if the
students were
more involved. He
just went over time
lapse and gave the
students a few
questions on the
board to complete.
I like this idea,
because it allow
the students learn
their time tables
while creating a
chart that they can
always refer back
later when they
need it.
I like How Mr. Lusk
assessed the
students by having
them solve
problems on the
board instead on
the getting a
worksheet full of
questions. This also
gave the students
a chance to learn

During my visit
today the students
were in Success
For All (SFA). SFA is
the time when the
students go to
their assigned
classroom based
on their reading
levels; this
program is
dedicated to
helping the
students improve
their reading skills.
During my visit the
students were
reading and
discuss the book
Too Many Tamales
by Gary Soto.
The students were
working on telling
time and solving
word problems
using a number
line.
Today the students
were working on
telling time using a
digital clock.

When I arrived the

students were
working reading
comprehension
during SFA. They
did this by focusing
on certain

from their
classmates.
I like the fact that
instead of reading
an entire book
each day in SFA,
the students only
read a certain
amount of pages.
Those pages are
then broken down
and discussed in
depth and there
are different lesson
and activities
completed based
on those pages in
the book. I notice
how excited the
students get to
read and discuss
the book during
SFA.
The students seem
to still struggle
with solving word
problems about
time using a
number line.
This appears to be
very easy for the
students and they
really enjoyed
using the digital
clock Mr. Lusk
pulled up on the
Smart board.
I thought this was
very beneficial to
the students
because it allow
them to bring more
meaning to the
text by defining

vocabulary words.

During my visit
today the students
were working on
telling time and
solving problems
using analog
clocks. Each
student was giving
an analog clock
and Mr. Lusk would
give them a time
and they had to
display that time
on their clocks
During SFA today
the students were
tested on their
reading fluency.
Five students were
called to the board
and they had to
read as much of
the book to the
class as they
possibly could in
one minute. Then
the class was to
rate them as not
fluent, somewhat
fluent or fluent.

words in the text

that they did not
know
I noticed that using
analog clocks were
a bit more
challenging for the
students than
using digital clocks.
However, they still
enjoyed it because
it gave to a hands
on experience
while being able to
learn from their
classmates.
I liked this idea to a
certain extent, I
like the fact that
the students could
get involved and
help the teacher
grade each
student. I do not
like idea, because
some of the
students read like a
robot, because
they were shy and
or nervous. As a
result the were
rated as not fluent.
