John Doe
Principal
Great High School

Dear Mr. Doe:

As a recent graduate from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona
State University, I am excited to apply my knowledge and skills to a
classroom. I have worked hard through three semesters of internships and
one semester of full time student teaching to attain the experience and
pedagogy needed to be an effective history teacher.
I have worked with high school aged students on multiple occasions in the
past and I find it fulfilling knowing that I am making a difference in their
lives and in the world. I firmly believe that by helping shape students lives
and futures I can change the world for the better.
History has always been a passion of mine, and I want to pass that on to
my students. It is my goal as a history teacher to educate my students on
the importance of American and World History. I have high expectations for
my students and will therefore always give them my best as their teacher.
It would be an honor to contribute to your great school and to do my part
to make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a candidate for the history
position at your school and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Emile Hughes

Dear Mr. Smith

I would like to take the time to give you an update on Johns academic
performance in my class. First of all, John is a great student. He readily
participates in discussions and often is engaged in the lecture. However,
his grade does not reflect the enthusiastic learner that he is.
There are two reasons for this. First, John never turned in his interactive
student notebook two weeks ago. This notebook helps students keep up
with class notes and is a great tool when studying for the test. It is also
weighed as a test grade so when he didnt turn it in it knocked his grade
from a B to a D.
Second, John performed poorly on his unit test last week. I spoke to him
today and we talked about why he didnt do well and what he can do to
bring his grade back up. It wont be hard for him to do better in the next
unit as long as he keeps on top of his notebook and uses it to study for
the test.
Again John is a great student, and I love having him my classroom. If
you have any questions for me I am more than happy to talk to you
further. You can email me at: emilehughes@great.edu or call me
through the school at: 602-555-0934.
Thank you for taking the time to listen to my concerns.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Hughes

Dear Parents and Guardians,

To me history is the best subject. Too often teachers make it boring. So,
as your childs American History teacher I plan on always making history
just as interesting to them as it is to me.
We will start by learning about the early colonies, a rough time for
students and colonists alike. Colonists died of disease and starvation
while students die of boredom having to listen to yet another lecture
about Pilgrims and Puritans. I will lead your child through all American
history, colonies to current political debates, while doing my best not to
let them succumb to the boredom so often associated with the subject.
For a detailed list and schedule of what your child will be learning please
refer to the syllabus.
I always work as hard as I possibly can to give my students the
education they deserve. In return I expect my students to work hard for
me. In order to make this class a success we will all need to operate on
mutual respect for each other. I am always available to help students
and to answer any questions you as a parent or guardian might have.
Lets work together to make this a fun and fruitful year.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Hughes
