WHO DOES THIS ORGANIZATION

SERVE?
This is an organization any person in need, Students, elderly,
children and even wounded veterans, they are here to help
anyone in need. Making a difference in the lives of children with
disabilities and their families; by contributing new knowledge that is
used to enhance their functioning, participation and well-being.
Researchers, clinicians and therapists all help in this field of study.
They pertain in public health by researching peoples needs and

wants for a better lifestyle even with the disabilities that they
have.

SUCCESSES
One of their biggest successes is their scholarship program. The Scholarship
Program is the oldest of the Foundation's programs dating back to the
establishment of AOTF in 1965. In the early 1980s AOTF expanded the program
to include partnerships between individual state associations and AOTF to
grant scholarships on their behalf.
In addition, the Foundation is the beneficiary of corporate funding for
scholarships. These funds are donated for limited time periods. The Foundation
seeks to increase the number of corporate scholarships as well as to attract
renewals of corporate scholarship donations.
They are also awarded for many community volunteering and give
knowledge of other programs by helping them understand the problems of
the disabled that we do not yet know through therapeutic methods.

CONTROVERSY
Not many people support this program because
many believe the range of study for this program is
limited.
Another fact is there is little evidence that
occupational therapy actually works and should be
a degree for public health education, which make
people believe that it is a scam to get peoples
money.

HOW IS THIS RELATED TO PUBLIC

HEALTH?
This organization is listening to the peoples needs
and wants and seeks to find the answers for an
easier cure that the disabled want.
Their work and dedication is primarily for the
people, not only do people give them donations to
help for future projects, they give back to the
community even more that was given, their prime
focus is for people in need.

THE FUTURE
There are many gaps between the scientific discoveries and the use of this
new knowledge by front-line occupational therapists and by consumers and
decision-makers within the health care system. Occupational therapy
researchers are well positioned to advance the field of knowledge translation
and implementation science, so as to ensure that practices and policies are
evidence-based and in line with best practices.
The Research Matters Campaign is their current project for the future. They will
fund practice-related research, train scientists, support capacity-building and
mentoring programs and promote scientific publications to communicate the
results of occupational therapy research. Major support for the campaign has
been received from both the American Occupational Therapy Association,
Inc. and the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc.
These leadership gifts recognize AOTF's important role in supporting research
during its first 50 years and provide a significant funding base for criticallyneeded intervention research now and into the future.
