Printed electronics
A set of printing methods used to create
electrical devices such as photovoltaics,
displays, batteries and sensors on various
substrates.
The term printed electronics is actually
related to organic electronics or plastic
electronics.

Printing techniques are

Photopolymer flexography printing plate

Nozzle based printing

Nano-imprinting

Solid state embossing

Screen printing
Inkjet printing
Roll to roll printing

multichannel transistors) on a polyimide substrate fabricated by direct
nano-imprinting of gold nanoparticle solution.

Direct-writing approach
Rollerball pen

Limitation of existing techniques

Rollerball pen method, a rollerball pen filled with conductive silver ink.
Inherent technical limitations that restrict its commercial applicability:

To dispense ink from pen, a

sufficient frictional pressure
between ball and substrate must
be generated. The required
operational
pressures
can
damage surfaces and reduce the
dielectric performances of soft
substrate materials, such as
polymers.
Substrate must be sufficiently
rough.
The rough surface in an organic
dielectric
component
can
significantly affect the electrical
performance of a device.

track on a Xerox paper.

Few
drawbacks
that
limits
its
applicability to certain commercialpurpose printing.
Organic inks are highly sensitive to the
jetting condition, including the
temperature, viscosity, concentration,
and humidity.
