Dear Future Pathways Student,

Hello, My name is Talin Manoukian. I am currently a Pathways Student, and I

understand you are having difficulty in whether or not the Pathways Program is for you.
For starters, The Pathways Program is available for Pasadena City College students who
wish to achieve general education studies in a sufficient two years time. First year
Pathways students are known as First year Pathways whereas the second year pathways
students are known as Second year Pathways. Being a First year pathways student, you
must complete a stamp for the following list of events; social gathering, speakers series,
coaching 101, and academics. Completion with these overall stamps will guarantee you
completion of first year pathways as well as priority registration. With the title of a
pathways student comes many advantages towards a sufficient school year. Free printing,
free tutoring, access to computers, study space, coaching, and friends are all located in
the TLCthe main room where pathways students can do either of the following.
Personally, I have a struggle with my math class. After consulting my coach, she strongly
urged me to go for help. Once I did, I noticed my grade point average raise 5%. Take my
call for help as proof that help and coaching is always a good thing. Coaches are assigned
for students for a semester wide check-up on classes, career plans, majors, and schools.
With these coaches, come guidance and help for students who need to do so. College 1 is
a mandatory class that all first year pathways students must complete. College 1 is an
introduction to college lifewhat to expect, finding help along the way,
organizing/prioritizing time efficiency, cognitive reading/ research strategies, and a
research project. The research project includes a topic from an in-class book in which
pathways students must conduct a poster and present the following to other pathways

students. This year, Pathways based the theme of Joshua Davis Spare Parts. Spare Parts
dealt with the hot topic of immigration and revolved the success story of four boys who
won a robotics competition. With the theme being Spare Parts, our whole semester unit
complied related assignmentsfor example, speakers series, RRJs, and in-class
discussions. RRJs is an acronym that stands for Reading Response Journals. These are
conducted every few chapters, and students must explain the events occurring in the book
yet mesh the following into their personal experiences and/or thoughts. This is an
opportunity for students to practice cognitive thinking among their data. During the
research project, my group conducted our poster off the DREAM ACT in relation to
graduates after High School. Overall, working in groups is much less stressful than if you
were to present the following by yourself. However, make sure you are aware of diving
up group effort and take motivation seriously. As a group we conducted the following A
successful group must be composed of the three; Group effort, equal work, and
communication. We believe without these components, no group can fully succeed.
Aside from group work, another benefit of this research topic comes connecting with
other students. This develops key communicating skills, even potential networking
opportunities. Overall, pathways gave me confidence in what I want to do, and provided
me with coaching and steps along the way. And yes Pathways takes dedication, however,
this program teaches you more beyond the walls of the TLC. Get the most our of this
time. College one course reader (pg. 61)
